HOME HOSPITALITY
THANK YOU
It would be impossible to write
“thank you’s’’ to the many, many
members of the Jewish com
munity in Atlanta who opened
their homes to military person
nel in town for Passover. The
doors of numerous homes were
opened so that the boys could
attend Seders, as well as stay
at the homes. This is to thank
all those who volunteered their
help for so worthwhile a cause.
Many of the servicemen com
mented on the warm reception
they received in the homes, the
synagogues and the Jewish
Community Center. A very
special thank you for your very
special hospitality.
SPORTS AWARD
BANQUET A HIT
Master of Ceremonies Marvin
Silverman welcomed the crowd
of over 300 and the first Sports
Award Banquet was officially
underway.
A delicious spaghetti dinner
prepared through the hard work
ing efforts of Norman Lebedin
got things underway.
Ralph Kahn, basketball com
mittee chairman, introduced our
featured guest speaker, Garland
Pinholster, head coach of Ogle
thorpe College basketball team.
Mr. Pinholster was at his best
in a very amusing ttalk. He was
followed by Mr. Gerald Sacks,
who is the public relations di
rector of the Atlanta Braves. Mr.
Sacks was well appreciated by
the audience as his presentation
was both informative and amus
ing. The many various awards
were then presented to the pros
pective teams and participants
with Mr. Pinholster and Mr.
Sacks doing the honors.
Everyone enjoyed themselves
and the Sports Award Ban
quet looks forward to next
year. The health and physical
education staff would like to pay
a special thanks to all the many
generous and hard working peo
ple who helped contribute their
time and efforts to make this ban
quet possible.

Military Arrive
In Atlanta
Anyone who inadvertently
walked into the AJCC audi
torium on April 4th or 5th would
have mistaken the Center for a
military installation. Over one
hundred Jewish servicemen were
treated to brunch on both days.
Volunteers from Junior Host
esses, Center staff and members
of the community helped to set
the tables and serve. The major
ity of soldiers were from Fort
Gordon, Fort McClelland and
Fort Benning. On Monday, Dr.
Mabvin Goldstein, chairman 3rd
Army area, addressed the group
with a welcome speech. Food
for the brunches was supplied by
the Jewish Welfare Board, Jew
ish Welfare Fund and Ahavath
Aehim Sisterhood. Following the
brunches there was music and
dancing.
