Who are the descendants of the
handful of Jewish residents
buried in Hollywood Cemetery
The premises are in a sad
state, according to recent visitors,
who were unable to tell whether
the situation is the result of van
dals or just the passage of time
and lack of attention.
Perhaps, the Jewish Commun
ity Council or Atlanta’s Jewish
congregations should all band to
gether and underwrite what res
toration costs are involved.
Or perhaps a volunteer youth
group, or garden club can come
to the rescue.
The burial grounds were used
from 1908 to 1911 according to
records on the tombstones, and
then abandoned. Here are some
names:
Isutic Stephen Smith
Max Levin, 19. . to 1909
Esther Friedman, 1890-1911
Paul Judah Breoosky, Dec. 24,
1908
Bessie Cohen, Sept. 15, 1910
Israel Goldstein, 1910
Phil and Dora Ruddens, Nov.
1908
Rosa (balance illegible).
Whether some of the grave
markers have been carted away,
it is impossible to tell, but some
are hundreds of feet from any
sign of a grave.
Cemetery officials list the ce
metery as group affiliation of the
members as “Shar Congrega-
gation.”
