New Trial for ex-Nazi
VIENNA (JTA)— Franz Novak,
a former Nazi SS captain, will
again be tried here next month
on charges of complicity in the
murder of 400,000 Jews, men,
women and children during
World War II. He was arrested in
January, 1961. Novak, a 53-year-
old accomplice of Adolf Eich-
mann, had been sentenced in
1964 to eight years’ imprison
ment. However, he filed an ap
peal, and the Supreme Court
ordered a retrial.
Aid to Discussion
NEW YORK (JTA)—A pamph
let entitled “Guide to Interre-
ligious Dialogue,” designed as an
aid to encourage interfaith dis
cussion, has been published by
the American Jewish Committee.
Rabbi Marc H. Tanenbaum, di
rector of the Committee’s inter
religious affairs department,
pointed out that the pamphlet in
cludes a list of topics for discus
sion, as well as a practical work
ing plan which explains how to
set up a dialogue, where to hold
it and how to attract participants.

Ellis krnall.
Ellis Arnall served this Georgia of ours
once before. Served with dignity and
integrity. Helping usher in a bright new
day for our State. For Ellis Arnall removed
trade barricades. And industry flooded
in with jobs and prosperity for all
Georgians. Badly needed legislation
became reality. The State government
was modernized. The colleges were saved.
The State debt was paid for the first
time in history, without raising taxes.
Ellis Arnall left office a near legend.
People said that here was a man twenty
years ahead of his time. Now the times and
the man have met. For the times again
call for Ellis Arnall to serve the people
of Georgia.

portunity to be entertained by
popular Joey Russell at a dinner

versary of the State of Israel.
The dinner, sponsored by the
Dalton Committee for State of
Israel Bonds, will be held at 6:30
p. m., Sunday, Sept. 11, at Beth-
E1 Temple, and will climax the
1966 Israel Bond drive in Dal
ton.
Mr. Russell, comedian, racon
teur and singer, has appeared in
numerous night clubs and hotels
throughout the country.
Warn Against
Hate Wave
BONN (JTA) — Vigilance
against “inhuman anti-Semitic
acts” was called for today in a
pre-New Year statement issued
here by the Central Council of
Jews in Germany. The Council
called on all to be alert against a
new hate campaign.
Plan to Expand
Cultural Ties
JERUSALEM (JTA) — Plans
aimed at expanding Israel’s cul
tural and scientific ties with other
countries have been forwarded
to Foreign Minister Abba Eban
by a special task force which he
appointed last April.
The committee’s recommenda
tions called for the appointment
of a scientific adviser to the
Foreign Minister, who would ad
vise on scientific ties overseas;
creation of an advisory public
council on cultural and scientific
relations; and a gradual increase
of the number of cultural and
scientific attaches at Israeli mis
sions abroad. The proposals also
recommended more cultural ex
changes under Israel’s cultural
agreements with other nations.
Soviet Executes
Nazi Murderers
WASHINGTON (JTA)—Vasily
Dolin, a member of the Nazi
security police during the Ger
man invasion of Eastern Europe,
was executed by a firing squad
in Leningrad for murder and
and torture of Soviet citizens,
the Tass News Agency reported
here. Tass said Dolin’s crimes
took place in Estonia and in the
vicinity of Leningrad. His appeal
was denied by a Soviet tribunal
because of the “gravity of the
crimes committed.”
The execution was another in
a series of severe punishments
meted out to persons who col
laborated with the Nazi SS and
Gestapo actions. Yesterday, Mos
cow reported that eight Russian
“Quislings”—convicted of serv
ing with the Nazis and carrying
out mass murders—were execut
ed by other firing squads. Though
there was no mention of Jews, it
was believed here that the vic
tims who were killed in the mass
murders were mostly Jews.
Anti-Nazi Painter
Dies in New York
NEW YORK (JTA) — Funeral
services were held here last week
for Arnold Hoffman, 80, a Rus
sian-born Jewish artist who won
fame when he turned from land
scapes to anti-Nazi themes.
Born in Odessa, he studied here
at the School of Beaux Arts and
in Germany before coming to the
United States in 1910. His work
is on display in many museums
and private collections.
