THE
Two Bankers Held
For Investigation
JERUSALEM (JTA)—The Is
rael Supreme Court has rejected
an application for release on bail
of two directors of a bank who
were jailed in connection with a
Government takeover of the bank.
The Government seized Feuch-
twanger’s bank, and its subsidi
ary, Ellem’s Bank, after disclos
ures of improperly secured loans.
The subsidiary, which was des
cribed as still in sound condi
tion, was put up for sale earlier
this week.
The two former directors, A.
Epstein and Ranan Amir, were
remanded for an additional two
weeks by a local magistrate after
the prosecution contended their
release might interfere with the
official investigation of the banks.
The effect of the Supreme Court
ruling was to confirm the local
remand order.
Youth Exchange Aim
Of New Fellowship
NEW YORK (JTA)—A World
Jewish Fellowship to promote
exchange programs between
young Jews in different coun
tries has been e s t a b lished
here at the initiative of
rabbis and lay Jewish leaders
of all sectors of American Jewry.
Rabbi Hertzel Fishman, chair
man of the coordinating commit
tee of the new group, announced
the project. He said that the pro
gram would enable young Jews
of one country to spend periods
of time as guests of carefully
selected Jewish families in anoth
er country, “whose religious
home practices do not violate
those of the visiting fellow.”
The program will be launched
with a pilot project next sum
mer in which American boys and
girls in their sophomore or junior
years in high school will live with
selected families in Israel.

Celler Scores UN
For Terrorist Aid
NEW YORK (JTA)—Congress
man Emanuel Celler, dean of the
House of Representatives and
chairman of its Judiciary Com
mittee, charged that the “so-call
ed Palestine Liberation Army,
which is sending its terroristic
bands on missions of murder into
Israel, derives financial aid from
the United Nations Relief and
Works Administration, through
funds allocated for rations to
Arab refugees.”
Mr. Celler told 1400 persons at
tending the annual dinner of
Bnai Zion, American fraternal
Zionist organization, that mem
bers of the terrorist Arab army
are being recruited from the
ranks of the Arab refugees. Des
pite strenuous objections, he said,
UN funds are being spent lor
Arab refugees who are members
of the army, with the excuse that
they could not be distinguished
from ordinary refugees.
Mr. Celler was presented with
the 1967 Bnai Zion Amerlca-Israel
Friendship Award, a gold medal,
in recognition for his services in
strengthening the ties between
the two democracies. Edward
Sharf, president of Bnai Zion,
made the presentation.
Special messages lauding Mr.
Celler’s long service in Congress
or on behalf of Israel were sent
to the dinner by President John
son, Israel’s President Zalman
Shazar and Israeli Prime Minister
Levi Eshkol. Mr. Johnson noted
in his message that “no man in
the House of Representatives has
served longer or with greater
dedication to the public interest”
