Buz Rosenberg
To Be Honored
For Grid Prowess
Buz Rosenberg, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Leman Rosenberg of Atlan
ta, is one of 22 high school
athletes to be honored at the
1968 Metro Atlanta High School
All-Star Football Team Awards
ceremony. The event which will
take place at 8:30 a.m., Saturday,
Dec. 7, at the Regency Hyatt
House, is co-sponsored by WSB
Radio and the National Bank of
Georgia.
Buz, a senior at Northside High
School and quarterback of the
Northside football team, has been
called by his coach, Wayman
Creel, “the most complete player
around in a long time.”
Dr. Noah Langdale, president
of Georgia State College, will be
the speaker. Also on the program
will be Phil Schaefer, WSB
Radio sports director, master of
ceremonies; Elmo Ellis, WSB
Radio general manager and King
D. Cleveland, senior vice presi
dent, the National Bank of
Georgia.
Teams of Atlanta Jewish
young people are being selected
to carry a torch from Israel on a
twelve-mile route passing all At
lanta synagogues and ending with
a Hanuka Menora lighting cere
mony at the Atlanta Jewish
Community Center on Sunday,
Dec. 15.
A special delegation will be at
the Atlanta airport to meet the
airplane carrying the torch which
will have been lighted in Modi’in,

A book review “Heaven Help
Us” by Max Robkin, will high
light the program. Mrs. Max
(Ethel) Trebits will present in
formation on Zionist Affairs.

Symbolic of the Jewish spirit
of freedom, the Atlanta Torch
Relay is planned as a protest
against the depression of Jewish
religion and culture in the Soviet
Union.

Jacob, delivered the Sermon at
the Sabbath morning services.
Lawrence Nager, vice president
of the Southeast Region UOJCA,
presided over a special breakfast
conference of synagogue presi
dents and board chairmen on
Sunday, December 1.
At the organization’s awards
dinner, Beth Jacob Congregation
was the recipient of the 1968
Charter of Honor of the UOJCA.
The award is presented “in tri
bute to exemplary accomplish
ment for Torah goals through the
practice and program of the
synagogue.” Jack Hirsch is presi
dent of the congregation. Speaker
at the dinner was Israel’s Am
bassador to the U.S. Yitzchak
Rabin.
Southern Notes
Mrs. Leon Goodman of Macon
has returned from a European
tour.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Raisin and
children of Port Washington,
N. Y., were Thanksgiving visitors
with Mr. Raisin’s brother, Hy
Raisin of Dalton and his fam
ily.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Light of
Atlanta entertained over a hun
dred guests at a party honoring
their son, Stuart Light and Miss
Paula Martin, whose engagement
was announced recently. A
March wedding is planned.
Stuart is currently serving in the
U.S. Air Force, stationed at
Dobbins Air Force Base. Miss
Martin is a legal secretary.
Synagogue at 1:00 p.m., the Tor«h
will be carried in relay by about
80 members of Jewish young
people’s organizations. After
leaving Beth Jacob, the route will
include Shearith Israel Syna
gogue, Or VeShalom, the Temple,
Ahavath Achim and culminate at
4:30 at the AJCC. Temple Sinai
will also participate.
At each synagogue, ceremonies
will be held commemorating the
story of the Maccabees’ revolt
for religious freedom in 200 BCE.
Atlanta To Host
National JWV
Auxiliary Chief
Mrs. Ellen G. Kaplan of New
Jersey, national president of
Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish
War Veterans, will visit the At
lanta Ladies Auxiliary and Post
112 December 11 and 12.
A board meeting is planned for
Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Grooot,
1066 Burton Drive, NJL, at
8:00 p. m.
On Thursday, Dec. 12, a dinner
meeting will be held at the
Admiral Benbow Inn, 1470 Spring
St., N. E. at 7:00 p. m. for the
entire membership and Post.

are in charge of reservations.
A presentation of a gift to the
Veterans Administration Hospital
by the Ladies Auxiliary and Tour
will be held at 2:00 pm., Thurs
day, Dec. 12, for those who wish

To View Film
Dr. Larry Bregman will pres
ent Part II of his film series on
“Israel Today” at the forthcoming
meeting of the Ahavath Achim
Adult Study Group Sunday, Dec.
8, at 11:00 a. m.
The illustrated lecture will
consist of two reels, featuring the
Golan Heights, Upper Galilee and
the Sinai Peninsula. The Hinas
were made just recently when
Dr. Bregman and his family vis
ited Israel and the occupied ter
ritories.
The public is invited.

Gate City Lodge Seeks
’68 Award Nominees
The Distinguished Service Award for the 1968 B’nai B’rith will
be presented at the regular meeting of Gate City Lodge to be held
in April according to Marvin Singer, chairman of the Distinguished
Service Award Committee.
Marvin Singer states that the selection will be made by the
Committee, which is composed of the Lodge officers. In accordance
with the rules governing the selection, the Committee is inviting
letters of recommendation for the recipient of the award from all
members of the Jewish community.
Anyone desiring to recommend someone for the award is urged
to mail in the ballot below to Marvin Singer.
The formula for selection is as follows: Gate City Lodge should
choose each year a citizen of Greater Atlanta, who, on behalf of the
City of Atlanta in the judgement of the Distinguished Service Award
Committee, best exemplifies the spirit and precepts of B’nai B’rith —
benevolence, brotherly love and harmony — by reason of his ac
complishments and unceasing and devoted efforts for the advance
ment of Jewish communal life.
