A unique venture in Jewish
graphic art has been created by
Atlanta Jewish Artist Sol Beton
for promotion by Coca Cola
bottlers of America.
The product is an 8(4 x 11-inch
one-page illustration of “Jewish
Holidays of the 70’s.”
The illustration, resembling
mosaic style.r
contains a ten-i
year calendar-
at-a-glance o f f
the major High)
Holy Days and*
the major Jew--
ish Festivals for'
the coming dec
ade.
Artist Beton|
has used the!
arms of a menora for design so
that the seven holidays and fes
tivals could be dramatically
presented in a form both read
able, festive and beautiful.
The multi-color printing pro
cess was executed on a new
form of paper, produced by
DuPont for its water-resistant
properties.
The calendar was launched as
a form of promotion by the Cocg
Cola Company last summer and
there has not generally been any
public announcement of distrib
ution because of the method
choice left to local bottlers. Dis
tribution in various parts of the
country will vary according to
preference of regional and local
bottlers. More than 150,000 cop
ies have been made available to
date by Coca Cola.
In Atlanta, a limited number
of the calendars has been made
available by the Coca Cola Co. to
the Southern Israelite for distri
bution to readers. Details for
securing a copy are available on
page six of this issue.
Mr. Beton, who has crafted
this special calendar, is a grad
uate of the Atlanta Art Institute
and has been in the graphic arts
field for more than 20 years. He
now operates his own advertis
ing and art studio.
He served with the Army Air
Forces in Europe where he met
and spoke with Picasso person
ally. He also attended the Sor-
bonne University for further
training in Art. While in the
service, he painted 150 portraits
of persons representing about
twenty different nationalities.
His pastel portraits and water
color landscapes are in many
private art collections. A char
coal by him of two emigrees or
displaced persons displays such
special perception and under
standing of overwhelming sor
row that reproductions of the
pair dominate any wall on which
the picture is hung.
A member of the Atlanta
Artist Club, the Art Directors
Club of America and the Atlanta
Art Association, Mr. Beton has
taught life drawing and adver
tising art at the Atlanta Art In
stitute Evening Classes. His
works have been exhibited
throughout Air Force Bases in
the United States, American Red
Cross Center in Paris and in
various galleries in and around
Atlanta. In addition to his art,
Mr. Beton is pastmaster of Ful
ton Masonic Lodge, No. 216. He
has been a member of the
‘'Ahavath Achim Synagogue
Choir for eighteen years.

our acknowledged interest in the
totality of needs for the world
Jewish community and especial
ly our brethren in Israel. We are
totally committed to the State

Federation Asks Speedy
Pledge - to - Cash Conversion
The Atlanta Jewish Welfare
Federation has responded to an
urgent plea from the United
Jewish Appeal seeking maxi
mum conversion of pledges to
cash before the year’s end.
, Reports received by Atlanta
Jewish Federation President,
Abe Goldstein, indicate that a
goal of $26 million has been set
for December. Albert B. Adel-
man, UJA’s National Cash chair
man, stated in a communication
to Atlanta Jewry: “To attain
our objective of $150 million by
December 31, 1969 UJA must
receive $26 million this month
alone. TTie on-going social wel
fare services in Israel depend on
a continuing flow of cash for
their maintenance. With total
resources Committed to security,
there is little left for these vital
welfare programs.”
Milton Weinstein, Atlanta
Jewish Welfare Federation vice-
president for Campaign and All
ocations, urged the community
in a statement issued to The
Southern Israelite: “Atlantans
must now campaign for cash as
we campaigned for pledges. The
leadership of the Federation’s
annual campaign is counting on
each and every contributor to
convert pledges to cash. The
need is now.”
Payments should be mailed to:
Atlanta Jewish Welfare Feder
ation, Inc., 41 Exchange Place,
