Atlanta Women Receive
National UJA Appointments
Mrs. Bernard Schanen of Dal
las, national chairman of the
Women’s Division of the United
Jewish Appeal, has announced
several important appointments
of leadership on the National
Board of Directors.
Mrs. Marvin C. Goldstein, At
lanta, who has served as a board
member for the past three years,
has been designated as co-vice
chairman of the Southeastern
Region. Sharing this post with
Mrs. Goldstein is Mrs. Morton
MRS. MARVIN C. GOLDSTEIN
Silberman of Miami Beach. Mrs.
Goldstein, a well known leader
in the Southeast, assumes this
position with impressive creden
tials having served twice as the
chairman of the Atlanta Jewish
Welfare Federation Campaign,
and having visited Israel on
three occasions during the past
few years.
Representing Atlanta also as
a national board member will
be Mrs. Sandra Epstein. Mrs.

a member of the Women’s Mis

Is It A Plot?
Where are the girls? By actual
count, the last few issues of The
Southern Israelite have an
nounced the birth of 19 boys.
Girls? Only 2.
We hate to think that the
genes have gone berserk — that
it is some sort of plot to stem
the tide of the Women’s Liber
ation Movement for future years.
Surely there are other new ar
rivals in the South who are girls.
Why do parents not bother to
let us know?
Mothers, stand up for your
rights! Let us know about your
new daughters. We love to print
good news, if you’ll just drop us
a note. (We still welcome boys,
too, of course.)
Georgia State
Sorority Begins
New Season
The Beta Phi Chapter of Phi
Sigma Sigma Sorority at Geor
gia State University is off to
a great year. After gaining many
wonderful girls, the pledge class
elected officers. They are Susan
Bress, president; Linda Ulman,
vice president; March Pitt, sec
retary; Pearl Greenberg, treas
urer; Diane Denny, fin. sec.;
Candice Caine, cor. sec. and
.Judy Perry, philanthro p h y
chairman.
To honor new girls and their
big sisters, the sorority held a
Big Sister-Little Sister Picnic on
October 25 at Stone Mountain.
When many people will be
preparing to go out spooking for
Hallowe’en, the Phi Sigma
Sigma pledges will go looking
for such items as mouseketeer
hats and wooden nickels for
their scavenger hunt. When
they have finished obtaining
their list of necessities, or when
the list finishes them, they and
the sisters will go trick-or-
treating for UNICEF, followed
by a Hallowe’en paity.
