Liane R. Levetan, Democratic
candidate for Senator from the
41st District of DeKalb County,
would, if elected, be the only
woman In the Georgia Senate.
She is, however, no newcomer
to politics.
Mrs. Levetan has long been
active in DeKalb County Demo
cratic affairs. She has served as
publicity chairman for the State
Democratic Executive Commit
tee and is vice chairman of the
DeKalb Democratic Executive
Committee. Mrs. Levetan is
chairman of the Women’s Bi
partisan Advisory Committee to
the county and is secretary of
the DeKalb Human Relations
Commission.
Urging maintenance of a well-
equipped, well-staffed neighbor
hood school system, the candi
date stresses she will work for
public kindergartens, lowering
the pupil-teacher ratio, increased
teacher salaries and attracting
more men into the teaching pro
fession. “You can’t expect the
women to do the job of teaching
alone any more than you can
expect . the men to govern
alone,” she says.
In addition to her commun
ity service, Mrs. Levetan has for
the past eight years taught Sun
day School at Ahavath Achim
Synagogue. She is a life mem
ber of Hadassah, a member of
Mizrachi Women, ORT, Council
of Jewish Women, and the Lea
gue of Women Voters.
Mrs. Levetan attended the
University of Georgia and Geor
gia State University. A pioneer
worker in the field of mental
health, she has taught at Fair-
haven School for the Mentally
Retarded and in the Atlanta
Public School System.

Other points of Mrs. Levetan’s
platform include a drug abuse
