BBYO Registration August 27;
Dr. Sheier Named New Director
Atlanta B’nai B’rith Youth
Organization will register new
eighth grade members from
1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 27, at
the Atlanta Jewish Community
Center.
BBYO, which has over 900
members in 37 BBG and AZA
chapters locally, is open to any
Jewish youth in eighth through
twelfth grades. Bach chapter is
limited to 30 members. Aims
are personal awareness — self
development; social awareness
—■ service to others and Jewish
awareness —• strengthening each
youth’s identity as a Jew.
Atlanta Council, the local co
ordinating body, sponsors con
ventions, projects and programs
through which members of each
chapter may work together.

Council presidents for 1972-73
are Lisa Galanti and Scot Rit-
tenbaum.
The appointment" of Dr. Ira J.
Sheier as AJCC-BBYO director
has been announced by Ronald
T. Cahn District Five BBYO
director and Frank Fierman,
AJCC executive director. Dr.
Sheier, in addition to directing
the AJCC-BBYO youth pro
gram, will serve the Southern
Region BBYO which includes
programs in six other Georgia
and South Carolina communities.
Dr. Sheier previously served
as director of Cotton States
Region BBYO, headquartered in
Memphis and was appointed to
Memphis Mayor Henry Loeb’s
Youth Guidance Commission.
He was also formerly a counse
lor on the staff of the dean of
students at DePauw University.
He is a native of Albany, N.Y.
and is completing his doctorate
in education at Indiana Univer
sity.

Atlanta Aliyah
Group Will Hear
Shimon Toper
The Atlanta Aliyah Group
will hold its monthly meeting
on Monday, Aug. 28, at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben

The group will have as guest
speaker Shimon Toper, national
director of Tour Ve’Aleh for \the
United States and Canada. Mr.
Topor, a former university lect
urer and an army lieutenant,
has been a financial adviser to
several of Israel’s leading com
panies. He will speak to the
meeting about investments, bus
iness opportunities, and other
aspects of the Israeli economy.
Persons interested in Aliyah
or in contemporary Israel in
general are welcome at the
meeting, which will begin at

the 350 seat establishment.
Eisenstein, a native of Can
ada, has over 13 years experi
ence in the food business. Can
ada was also the birthplace of
the original Spaghetti Empor
ium in 1970, though there are
now seven in various parts of
the country and one due to open
in Australia in October.
In Atlanta, Bernie Eisenstein
has been active in the field of
mwital retardation and enter
tains over 350 retarded children
twice a year. He has organized
the Underground Atlanta mer
chants to sell tickets for the
Georgia Tech-Alabama football
game this year with half the
proceeds to benefit a local or
ganization for retardees.
