Macon Hadassah Event
To Honor Mrs. B. Goldgar
was active in Zionist activities even
then.
Moving to Macon after her
marriage to the late Ben Goldgar,
the honoree quickly became in
volved in Jewish and general com
munal work. She was president of
the Winship School PTA and sang
professionally in church and tem
ple alike.
The mother of three sons,
Myron (Mike) of Atlanta, Harry
of New York and Bert of
Appleton, Wis., Mrs. Goldgar has
six grandchildren.

Mrs. Ben Goldgar will be the
honoree at the April 30 donor
dinner of the Macon Chapter of
Hadassah.
The event will take place at 7
p.m. at the Idle Hour Country
Club.
Donor emphasis will be on
Hadassah Israel Education Ser
vices project which encompasses
the Hadassah Brandeis/Seligsburg
Hadassah
Will Present
Myrtle Wreaths
On Tuesday, Apr. 15, at 7:45
p.m.-at the Or VeShalom
Synagogue, the Atlanta Chapter of
Hadassah will present its coveted
Myrtle Wreath awards.
Presiding will be Mrs. Edward
Sternberg, president of the Atlanta
Chapter. Cochairmen for the event
are Mrs. Joseph Kenith and Mrs.
Herbert Karp.
The honorees are Dr. Jack S.
Boozer, professor of religion,
Emory University; Josiah V,
Benator, and the corps of
volunteers for the Jewish Home.
Dr Boozer has been cited for his
leadership in the establishment of
the Chair of Judaic Studies at
Emory University, and for his ef
forts on behalf of Christian-Jewish
understanding in the community.
Josiah Benator has been cited
for his many years of involvement
in Jewish education, his communi
ty leadership, and his exceptional
services in the field of scouting.
The volunteers at the Jewish
Home, over 90 in number, are be
ing honored for “their continuing
devotion, concern and commit
ment to the Home." Accepting the
award for the volunteers will be
Mrs. Esther Friedman, chairman.

Exotic desserts and after-dinner
coffees will be demonstrated and
sampled when members of
Shoshanim Hadassah and their
husbands meet Thursday, April
24, at 8 p.m. Dr. and Mrs. Arnold
Zweig, 4110 GlenDevon Dr., will
be hosts.
Jack Kopelman, Sandy Springs,
will demonstrate preparation of
Bananas Foster, and Dr. Zweig
will prepare Cherries Jubilee.
Those attending will have the
opportunity to try making their
choice of various after-dinner
coffees. Recipes and ingredients
for'each will be supplied.
Mrs. Malcolm Rosenbloum will
preside. Mrs. Sidney Tourial, vice-
president, and Mrs. Michael Press,
cooking class chairman, are in
charge.
Aviva Hadassah
Members of Aviva Hadassah,
their husbands and friends will
"Discover Jewish America," with
a slide show presentation at 8:00
p.m. Sunday, Apr. 13, at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Milstein,
1550 High Haven Ct , N.E.
Maurice Burnston, lecturer,
author and traveler, will show his
color slides and present tbe com
mentary.

Comprehensive High School and
two year community college. This
particular area was chosen to
honor Mrs. Goldgar, who main
tains a lifelong interest in books
and education.
Speaker will be Ms. Debera
Sharpe, coordinator of program
development of the Georgia
Department of Education.
A member of Hadassah for 45
years, M rs. Goldgar was one of the
original founders of the Macon
Chapter in 1929 and its first presi
dent. She has held virtually every
position available in Hadassah and
has never been off the board of the
chapter. She served a second term
as president from 1947-49 and has
been a life member since 1959. In
1962, Mrs. Goldgar was Macon
Chapter’s first “Woman of
Valor."
Mrs. Myra Dunn, vice president
of programming, said, “ ‘Miss An
nie’ is one of the most intelligent
and sincere women to have graced
the Hadassah scene. Her opinions
of world events, especially Israel,
are listened to with great respect,
because she is so well read." Mrs.
Goldgar is often called upon as a
speaker or panelist for community
events.
Born Annie Shapiro in Bir
mingham, Mrs. Goldgar taught
school there, even coaching a
trophy-winning softball team. She

Tel Chai Hadassah will meet at
10:00 a m. Wednesday, Apr. 23, at

A nurse from the Red Cross will
demonstrate first aid procedures
for emergency situations.
Admission is 75 cents each. In
