Augusta Leader Wilensky Dies Region Mizrachi Parley
In Atlanta Dec. 14-13
Harry Wilensky, 75, of
Augusta died Saturday, Nov. 15.
Funeral was held in Adas
Yeshuron Synagogue with Rabbi
Maynard C. Hyman officiating.
Interment was in Magnolia
Cemetery.
Mr. Wilensky, a native of
Russia, had lived in Augusta for
55 years. A retired merchant, he
was a Gabbai of Adas Yeshuron
Synagogue and was the 1972
Israel Bond honoree. He had
been president of the Augusta
Zionist Organization.
Memberships included the
John S. Davison Lodge, Alee
Temple, Augusta Shrine Club, of
which he was past president,
and the Augusta Civitan Club.
Mr. Wilensky was a 32nd degree
Scottish Rite, K.C.C.H.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Jennie B. Wilensky of
Augusta; three daughters, Mrs.
George (Shirley) Kaufman,
Atlanta; Mrs. Sidney (Peggy)
Singer, Baltimore; and Mrs.
Donald (Elise) Rosenfeld,
Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one sister, Mrs.
Jennie Teskey of Augusta.

o. Mose H. Portman, 72, of
_ Savannah, died Thursday, Nov.

21 with interment in Bonaven-
ture Cemetery.
Mr. Portman was born in
Minsk, Russia but had lived in
Savannah most of his life. He
was a former City Court Clerk
and for many years operated the
Mose and Yanks Restaurant
and a luncheonette, soda foun
tain and tobacco store on the
ground floor of the Hotel Savan
nah, later named the Manger
Hotel.
During World War II, Mr.
Portman was commodore of the
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in
the Savannah area. He was a
member of B’nai B'rith Jacob
Synagogue, a Shriner and a
Mason.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Minnie Portman of Savan
nah; son. Dr. Bernard Portman
of Savannah; daughter, Mrs.
Ann Druker of Indianapolis;
mother, Mrs. Racheal Portman
of Savannah; three brothers, Dr.
Harry, Ben and Nathan Port-
man, all of Savannah; sister,
Mrs. Dora Katzman of Los
Angeles; five grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Morris Krischner
GOLDSBORO, N.C. - Morris
Krischner, 62, formerly of
Savannah, died Saturday, Nov.
15, in Goldsboro.
Graveside services were held
Monday, Nov. 17, in Wayne
Memorial Park, Goldsboro.
Mr. Krischner owned and
operated North Carolina Salvage
Co.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Leila Brown Krischner of
Goldsboro; daughter, Mrs. Bob
by Mozingo of Goldsboro;
brother, Herman Krischner of
Savannah; sister, Mrs. Annie
Meyer of Savannah and a
grandchild.
Fred Unveiling
Unveiling ceremonies in
memory of Dr. Richard Fred,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fred of
Atlanta, will take place at 2 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 14, at Greenwood
Cemetery.
Mrs. Fannie Parrell
Mrs. Fannie Meltz Parrell of
Atlanta died Monday, Nov. 17.
She was 81 years old.
Mrs. Parrell was the widow of
Kalman Parrell. She was a
member of A ha vat h Achim
Congregation.
Funeral was held Nov. 18 at
Green Lawn with Rabbi Harry
H. Epstein and Cantor Isaac
Goodfriend officiating. Inter
ment was in Greenwood
Cemetery,
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Donald Wender; brothers
Meyer Meltz and Hyman Meltz;
sister, Mrs. Rose Sietel, all of
Atlanta; three grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.
Dora Smith
Mrs. Dora R. Smith, 71, of
Atlanta died Friday, Nov. 28.
Funeral was held Sunday,
Nov. 30, with Rabbi Harry H.
Epstein and Cantor Isaac Good-
friend officiating. Interment
was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith, the widow of Dr.
Simon H. Smith, was a real es
tate broker for 28 years and
operated the Dora R. Smith Real
Estate Co. She was born in
Oeilla, reared in Alma and came
to Atlanta after attending
Brenau College. She was a
member of Ahavath Achim
Synagogue, the Temple and
various organizations.
Survivors include a daughter,
Mrs. Charles II. Simon, and a
son, Alan M.Smith, both of
Atlanta; sisters, Mrs. Simon
Bressler of Atlanta and Mrs.
Robert Sunshine of Dallas;
brother, Robert Robbins of
Atlanta; six grandchildren,
nieces and nephews.

Congressman Andrew Young
will be presented with the
Bronze Medallion award.
Previous recipients have been
the late Ralph McGill, Aubrey
Morris, Wyche Fowler and Reg
Murphey.
Young, who was a close
associate of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. in the civil rights move
ment, has been closely identified
with the Jewish community. He
has served as honorary chair
man of the State of Israel
Dinner and on the dinner com
mittee for the Anti-Defamation
League annual dinner.
Guestt speaker will be Mrs.
Louis ‘Schreiber, honorary
national president of Mizrachi
Women.
Reservations for the donor
banquet can be made with Mrs.

Mrs. Lillian Caller, who is
chairing the convention, advises
that it will reconvene at 10 a.m.
Monday, Dec. 15, to take up
critical issues facing world
Jewry.

Miss Rosenberger
Miss Carrye Rosenberger, 87,
of Atlanta died Saturday, Nov.
29.
Graveside services were held
Monday, Dec. 1, at Crest Lawn
with Rabbi Alvin Sugarman of
ficiating.
Miss Rosenberger retired
from Southern Bell with 38
years of service. She was a
member of the Temple.
Survivors include nieces, Mrs.
Hermyne R. Fox and Mrs. Hazel
R. Goldman, and nephew, Col. J.
D. Rosenberger Jr., all of Bir
mingham.

Dr. William Korey, director of
B’nai B’rith United Nations Desk
and world authority on Soviet
Jewry, will speak in Atlanta at
the Women's Plea for Soviet
Jewry rally at 11 a m. Tuesday,
Dec. 10, at the Temple.
Dr. Korey, a graduate of the
University of Chicago, received
his PhD from Columbia Univer
sity’s Russian Institute. He was
a winner of the Ford Foundation
Fellowship and the Carnegie
Research Grant and has publish
ed articles on human rights and
Soviet Jewry in both popular
and scholarly journals. He is
presently visiting professor of
Soviet Jewish History at
Brooklyn College and previously
was visiting professor of Rus
sian history at Yeshiva Universi
ty.
