Evan Goodman of
Washington, D.C., is believed to
have performed a first — a
kosher bike trip, coast-to-coast
Evan traveled from Philadelphia
to Berkeley, CaUf., with kosher
meats, jars of peanut butter, two

raisins and a small gas stove.
“My partner and myself had an
agreement,” the youth told
columnist Larry Shane of the
Washington Jewish Week. “We
would rest on the Shabbat and I
would keep kosher the best way
possible during the entire trip. I
would say the peanut butter was
a Rffe saver," he added.

Marx’s former secretary and
companion, converted to
Judaism some months before his
death in the hope that would en
courage Groucho to marry her.
She had also been the prime

home last Passover.

Arthur J. Goldberg, a former
chief delegate to the United
Nations, is to be
nominated as an
ambassador - at
the
conference
held in
October, according to an an
nouncement from the White
House. Goldberg, 69, has been
away from diplomatic life for
nine years.
Tony Mills, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Monty Mills of Atlanta,
recently graduated summa cum
laude from the University of
Georgia with a degree in accoun
ting. An associate justice of the
Judicial. Council, Tony was
elected to Phi Kappa Phi, Beta
Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha
Psi honorary fraternities. He
will enter the University of
Georgia School of Law in the

Robert Ginsburg of Augusta is
among forty-nine young leaders
in American Jewish youth
movements and organisations to
participate in the Institute for
Jewish Youth Leaders from
Abroad in Israel. The yesr-long
leadership training program,
generally known as Mschon, is
sponsored in America by the
American Zionist Youth Foun
dation. Participants are high
school graduates who have been
recommended by their ih-
dividual organisations for hav
ing outstanding leadership
potential.

Savannah not only has one of
the few Jewish police chief* in
the country, David G. Epstein,
but one of even fewer police
chiefs with a PhD. Epstein has
recently been awarded a degree
in criminal justice from
Michigan State University. He
had previously earned two
master’s degree* from the same
school, one in political science
and one in police administration.

Ford will visit Israel in the
spring of 1978, Prime Minister
Begin told the Knesset. Begin in
vited Ford during a telephone
conversation he had with the ex-

Atlanta will mark their fiftieth
wedding anniversary this month
with a party in their honor at the
Standard Club given by their
children, Dr. and Mrs. Jacob A.
Spanier.

Cohen were married on July 81,
at the home of the bride’s
parents in Zichron Ya’akov,
Israel.
The bride is the daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. Israel Jehuda. She
is the granddaughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Y. Jehuda of Ttfat, Israel
and of Mr. end Mrs. G. Tessler of
Haifa, Israel.
The bridegroom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin B. Cohen of
Atlanta. He is the grandson of
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cohen of
New York and Mrs. Fannie Shur
of Atlanta and the late Arthur
Shur.
Davids Cohen, aiater of the
bridegroom, served as bridal
attendant
Joel Cohen was his brother’s
best man.

The couple will make their
home in Israel where the bride is
working on her master’s degree
in biochemistry at Bar Han
University. The bridegroom is
studying for his master's degree
in construction management at
the Technion in Haifa.
