Israel goes sexy
witli swimsuits!
\ .
by Gloria Dautaoh
Some of the sexiest bathing
suite to be seen on the Israeli
fashion scene in the last few
years were dreamed up by a
chute-looking sweet girl-next-
door type by the name of Rahel
Pappo. She is the chief designer
st Diva, the beach wear people,
as well as being the daughter of
the family Arm of Hirsehthal
who started the now-highly
successful business in 1942.
Rahel, whose daring
have made the cover of
looks most at ease in
gingham shirt.
M My parents came here in 1938
from Czechoslovakia and b tar ted
with one sewing machine in the
Tel Aviv basement where they
lived. Then it was just bras and
girdles. My father used to cut,
mother sewed and my uncle did
the selling. Later they expanded
to bathing suits and the early ex
perience meant that a Diva
costume was always noted for
its good cut and support
When Elasar Pappo, Rahel’s
husband, joined the firm instead
of the Foreign Office, the whole
image changed. They had always
been rather cautious, making
suits to last for years and steer
ing dear of the fashion scene.
But Elasar Pappo quickly saw
where the future lay, and Rahel,
who had worked in the business
since she was a schoolgirl began
to design high fashion, highly
erotic costumes, in the bright
custom made Diva fabrics.
They have branched out into
sportswear as well this year
with youthful designs like the
rough cotton dress-cum-shorts
with watermelon design which
they think will be a winner.
Elasar Pappo who runs the
financial side reckons their ex
ports will top the million dollar
mark this year, with France,
Britain, Germany and
Switzerland their biggest
buyers. They could increase out
put if they could get more than
the present 140 factory workers
and 80 outside piece good
workers. “The trouble is,” says
Elasar, “Israeli girls don’t want
to work in a factory, they’d
rather work in a bank. Man
power shortage is one of our
biggest headaches.”

The Anti-Defamation League-
WSB Radio L’Chaim Series will
feature a discussion on
"Teaching About Minorities in
the Public Schools” from l(h30 to
11:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept 25.
A panel including Dr. Carol
Hahn, assistant professor of
educational studies, Emory
University; Dr. Sidney Estes,
assistant superintendent for in
structional planning and
development Atlanta Public
Schools; Betty G. Cantor,
southern director of education
for the Anti-Defamation
League; and Aubrey Morris of
WSB Radio, will discuss the
issue of multi-ethnic education
in the school system:
According to Dr. Estes, the
“melting pot mythology has
been replaced with strong
pressures for students to retain
group identity. . . . the student
will have to understand the con
sequences of assimilation, which
today is usually the loss of peer
respect.”

Dear
Happy
DEAR HAPPY, rue been a housewife and
a mother of three so long, that I’ve forgotten what
it was like to be the girl,my husband married. It
seems like the daily routines af my motherly
duties make me lose sight of the nice things
between us that used to make our Hues interest
ing. What can / do short erf selling the kids to the
gypsies for a-weekend .
ACTIVELY INVOLVED, BUT
STARVED FOR ROMANCE.
Dear Starved For Romance, I think you see
your problem clearly, but lack a viable solution.
You get so Caught up in the role of being a good
mother, that you neglect yotir own needs as a wife
and a woman.
What you need is a break from your normal
routine. Get a baby sitter, and get your honey to
take you away from it all for a weekend. You’ll be
able to realize yourself and what you need to
reestablish with your husband much faster, if
the kids aren’t around as an added distraction.
I’d recommend the Marriott Hotel at Pe
rimeter Center as a perfect place for the both of
you to get it back together again . . . especially
because of their new Escape Weekend Plans.
The Marriott Hotel at Perimeter Center is
the perfect setting. It has a heated indoor pool, a
Sauna, lighted tennis courts, a fantastic restau
rant and a live entertainment lounge with dancing
after dinner. You’ll also be able to pick up some
new things at Perimeter Shopping Center, be
cause it’s right next door.
And if you’re starved for a bargain, the
Escape Weekend will fit the bill, it jriUudes a guest
room and breakfast-for-two both days, dinner for
two one night, free facilities for less than $80 a
couple. Or, take the one-night Escape-cham-
* pagne, a room dinner and breakfast for less then
$60 per couple.
A weekend like this will not only let the girl in
you emerge, but 111 bet that your husband will
fall in love with her all over again. Good luck.
Make your reservations now for an exciting Es
cape Weekend at the Marriott Hotel at Perimeter
Center. Call (404) 394-6500.
