Bloom to take Atlanta Lodge gavel*
Robert D. Bloom will be
installed as the new president of
Atlanta Lodge B’nai B'rith at a
banquet on April 30 at Ahavath
Achim Synagogue.
Lee M. Weinstein is outgoing
president. The other officers to
be installed are: Adrian Grant,
president-elect; Arthur Sahis,
Alan Turem, and Bruce
Weinstein, vice presidents;
Elliott Millman, treasurer;
Brian Schiff, secretary, Edward
M. Joffe; monitor; Lee M.
Weinstein, chaplain.
Hirsch Bressler, past lodge
president, will be master of
ceremonies, with Marshall S.
Solomon, national CVS
commissioner and past lodge
president, serving as the
installing officer. Also installed
will be the new board of
trustees.
Rabbi David H. Auerbach,
Associate Rabbi of Ahavath
Robert Bloom
Achim Synagogue, will serve as
the keynote speaker. The lodge
will honor Arnold D. Ellison,
executive vice president of
District 5 B’nai B’rith, for his 20
years of dedicated professional
service to B’nai B’rith and the
Jewish Community.
Bloom, of Tucker is vice
president of Comet Manufac
turing Corporation. He is
married to the former Sara
Ellen Berman of Atlanta and
has two children, Barry 9, and
David, 6. A native of
Columbia, S.C., Bloom is a
member of Congregation Beth
Shalom, the Atlanta BBYO
Board, Synagogue Council of
Atlanta, and currently serves as
treasurer of the Georgia State
B’nai B’rith Assn.
Stan Gertzman of Charlotte,
a past District 5 B’nai B’rith
president and currently a
member of the international
board of governors, will lead
the tribute to Ellison.

An electronics student experiments with equipment at ORTs
first institution in the United States, the newly opened Bramson
ORT Training Center in New York City.
Designed to provide technical education in the community, the
center conducts post-secondary programs in electronics-
technology and business administration, with all programs being
job oriented. The center has been regarded as providing possible
solutions to the education crisis in the United States.
The ORT school was dedicated to Nathan Gould, national
executive director and executive vice president of Women's
American ORT.
Temple Sinai
Temple Sinai will observe its
tenth anniversary celebration in a
weekend of special religious
services and festivities, to be held
April 28-30.
On Friday evening, April 28,
services at 8:15 p.m. will honor
past congregational presidents and
presidents of the Women’s
Committee.
Saturday morning services, at
10:30 a m., will feature Cantor
Sidney Gottler of Temple Sinai, in
a special musical presentation.
Saturday evening will include a
reception and wine and cheese
buffet. Music and a specially
prepared slide display will be on
the program.
On Sunday, the Religious
School will culminate several
weeks of artistic and literary
projects commemorating the tenth
anniversary. Birthday cak? will be
served to all.
The Committee, under the
leadership of Barbara Pollock,
includes: Dr. Morris Benveniste,
David Minkin, Judy Fenster,
Roscanne Diamond, Sandy Palay,
Arnold Katinsky, Sara Tauber,
Dr. Ron Rosen, Harriet

Workmen’s Circle
Third Seder
Workmen’s Circle will hold its
annual Third Seder program in
commemmoration of the Warsaw
Ghetto and in protest against
today’s repression, on Sunday,
April 30, at 6 p.m., at the Emory
Hillel House, 1531 Clifton Rd.
A complete kosher dinner, from
gefillte fish and matzo ball soup to
mandelbrot, will be served. The
program is open to the
community.

UN Ambassador Lowenstein
to address AJC meeting
Ambassador Allard K.
Lowenstein, United States
Representative to the United
Nations for Special Political
Affairs, will address the 34th
Annual Meeting of the Atlanta
Chapter, American Jewish
Committee on Sunday, April
30, at 6 p.m., at the Standard
Club. The dinner will honor
Sidney Feldman, who will
receive the AJCs Human
Relations Award.
Long an activist in the field of
human rights, Lowenstein was
the U.S. Representative to the
33rd Session of the U.N.
Human Rights Commission
and was credited with several
major breakthroughs on issues
addressed by that Commission.
He was also actively involved in
work on the Helsinki Accord.
His address will concern
Helsinki, the plight of Soviet
Jewry, and its meaning to the
struggle for human rights.
Lowenstein represented the
5th Congressional District of
New York in the 91st Congress
and he represented the state of
New York on the Democratic
Allard K. Lowenstein
National Committee from
1972-1976. He has been on the
staff of various public officials,
including Senators Frank
Graham and Hubert Humph
rey, and has taught at a number
of universities, including
Stanford, North Carolina
State, CUNY, and Yale He is
the author of Brutal Mandate, a
book about Southwest Africa.
