The Epstein School honors founders
Founders of the Epstein-
Solomon Schechter School will be
honored at a gala community-wide
dinner on Wednesday, May 16, at
7:30 p.m. at the Ahavath Achim
Synagogue.
Founders of the Epstein School
are those individuals who, over the
past six years of the school’s
existence, have aspired to or have
contributed $2,500 or more.
Keynote speaker for (he evening
will be Rabbi Harry Epstein.
Although still officially on
sabbatical. Rabbi and Mrs.
Epstein will be in Atlanta for the
day to honor and pay special
tribute to the founders of the
school. A reception at 6:30 p.m.
will be hosted by Rabbi and Mrs.
Epstein for those making a
contribution of $250 or more.
Co-chairmen for the dinner are
Gerald Cohen, Ely Freedman, and
Sol Singer.
The cost of the dinner will be
$85 00 for one person and $125.00
per couple. Dress is optional. For

v Epstein School students receive
a blended-integrated education
including a rich general curriculum
and a full Judaic one. The school is
open to all children at any grade
level from first through eighth
grades. The Ulpan program allows
a child' without any previous
knowledge of Hebrew to enter the
school at any grade level and
participate in the school’s total
educational program.

has new phone number
The Jewish Vocational
Service (JVS) of the Atlanta
Jewish Federation which serves
the community through its job
placement and career and
educational guidance programs
has changed its telephone
number.
The new number of JVS is
876-5872. Another way of
remembering the number is
876-JVSA, which stands for
Jewish Vocational Service
Atlanta.
ORT program highlights
Jewish heritage
The Atlanta Region of Women’s
American ORT will present a
series of programs about Jewish
heritage for students of the Temple
religious school through Sunday,
May 6, at the Temple.
ORT, the world-wide vocational
training program of the Jewish
people, maintains 12 active
chapters in the Atlanta region
totaling 1,800 members. One of its
basic goals is to foster and
strengthen Jewish identity through
career awareness programs,
vocational training, and other
community activities.

The AJCC and the Atlanta
Chabad Center will sponsor a
weekend Sabbath celebration
from Friday, May 25 through
Sunday, May 27, at Camp Barney
Medintz in the north Georgia
mountains.
The program titled, “Adventure
in Soul Judaism,” will include
song, prayer, festive meals, family
atmosphere, and discussions.

The opening of the Atlanta
Jewish Community Center’s new
Zaban Branch building on Tilly
Mill Road in the fall of 1979 will
bring a new dimension to the entire
North Atlanta community.
Located near Dunwoody, on the
40-acre Zaban Park site, the Zaban
Branch, added to (he Peachtree
Road Center will double the
indoor and outdoor facilities,
offering multiple activities for all
ages through AJCC membership
Among these facilities are two
pools, one indoor and one
outdoor; a stocked lake, seven
racquetball-handball courts; 10
tennis courts; three gyms; three
athletic Fields; a 1.3 mile jogging
trail with exercise stations, (hat
winds its way around the lake and
through a forest of Georgia pines
and hardwoods; and early
childhood department; arts and
crafts studios with kilns and
pottery wheels; lounges and
gamerooms; a mirrored dance
room; youth lounges; and a
darkroom. These modem facilities
director of the Atlanta Chabad
Center, will lead the group.

The Atlanta Jewish Community
Center is beginning a massive
membership campaign. Patsy
Goldberg, membership director,
will spend two afternoons a week
at Zaban Branch for those wishing
to tour the facility and inquire
about membership. Starting May
3, her hours will be on Monday
and Thursday, 2 to 5 p.m. The
