Members of Atlanta Lodge
B’nai B’rith No. 1773 were out in
full force Sunday, July 15. They
drove all over the Atlanta area
picking up donations of household
goods and clothing for use by the
150 Russian immigrant families
expected to resettle in Atlanta this
year.
Two truckloads of furniture,
dishes and other items were
collected in Atlanta Lodge’s effort
to assist the National Council of
Jewish Women with the task of
helping settle the new immigrant
families.
The project coordinators were
Eddie Joffe, Ted Marcus, Joel
Haber and Joel Isenberg. Joffe,
vice president of Atlanta Lodge,
said that this type of project brings
a lot of satisfaction to the members.
Because of the success of this
program it will be repeated in
October or November.
Over the past few years Atlanta
Lodge has played an important
role in Atlanta with its community
service projects such as a mini
camp for blind children at Zaban
Park, sponsorship of a BBYO
Chapter for 20 mentally
handicapped children, conducting
services and supporting the Jewish
inmates at the Atlanta Federal
Penitentiary, and variety shows at
the VA Hospital and Jewish
Home.

Simcha Hadassah
has membership coffee
Simcha Hadassah will hold a
membership coffee at 8 p.m.,
Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the home of
Ruth Berlye, 2684 Spicer Lane,
Decatur.
Simcha Hadassah meets
primarily in the daytime, in
Northeast Atlanta and is
comprised of women who are at
least 30 years old.

Zaban Branch sponsors
racquetball tournament
The AJCC will sponsor a
"Zaban Zinger” racquetball
tournament from Saturday
evening. Sept. I (after Shabbos),
through Labor Day, Monday,
Sept. 3, at the newly constructed
courts at the Zaban Branch
building
More than 125 men and women
from throughout Georgia are
expected to compete in eight
different ability divisions ranging
from novice to some of the top
players from Georgia, including
two of Atlanta’s best, Jim Cullen
and Wayne Vincent.
Both the Zaban buildingand the
Peachtree facility will be used
during preliminary rounds. All
semi-final and final matches will be
held at the new Zaban courts.

Beth Shalom Sisterhood
has spaghetti luncheon
The sisterhood of Congregation
Beth Shalom will have a spaghetti
luncheon at 1:30 p.m., Sunday,
Aug. 19, at the home of Barbara
Lang, 3095 Cedar Brook Drive,
Decatur.
New and prospective members
are invited to attend. A donation
of $3 per person will be collected.

bowling, swim party
Congregation Etz Chaim will
hold a bowling party beginning at

will be featured after the games.

Beth Shalom's religious school has
been changed Registration will be
held at Briarlake Elementary

OVS picnics
at Lake Lanier
Congregation Or VeShalom will
have a family picnic on Sunday,
Aug. 26. at the Dogwood Pavilion
at L.ake Lanier. Buses will leave the
synagogue at 10 a.m.
Admission, which includes
transportation and lunch, is $4 50
for adults, $3.50 for children under
12, and $5.50 for guests.

Garin Merom Zion
has open house
Garin Merom Zion will have an
open house at 7:30 p.m., Sunday,

The American-based Garin,
which will begin aliya this summer,
is forming a religious Moshav
Shitufi under the auspices of Poale
Agudah Israel.
Couples between the ages of 21
