Challenges, changes
Beth Jacob will host rabbinical conclave
Leading rabbis in Southern
states will gather in Atlanta to
discuss issues challenging the
Orthodox rabbinate posed by
developing Southern Jewish
communities. The two-day
seminar, scheduled for Feb. 23-24,
will be held at Congregation Beth
Jacob, with Rabbi Emanuel
Feldman, spiritual leader of Beth
Jacob, serving as host.
The seminar is being co
sponsored by the Division of
Communal Services and the
Rabbinic Alumni of the Rabbi
Isaac Elchanan Theological
Seminary (RIETS), affiliates of
Yeshiva University, with the
Southern Region of the Union of
Orthodox Jewish Congregations
of America.
Scheduled to address the
conference during an opening
session billed as “A Changing
Community Challenges the
Rabbi Feldman
Rabbi,” are Rabbis Jonah Gewirtz
of New Orleans, Nathan
Greenblatt of Memphis, Flarry
Rosen of Birmingham, Abraham
1. Rosenberg of Savannah, and A.
Mark Levin of Memphis, who will
also chair the first panel.
Among the highlights of the
conclave will be the full-length
evening symposium led by Rabbi
Zevulun Charlop of Yeshiva
University and Rabbi David
Radinsky of Charleston, who will
examine the dilemma of “The
Jew in Two Worlds-Integration
and/or Separation.” Atlanta
religious leaders and the public
have been invited to attend the
evening event which is being
chaired by Rabbi Feldman.
A final morning session
conducted by Rabbi Herbert J
Cohen of Atlanta will feature a
roundtable exchange of preaching,
teaching and programming ideas,
shared by Chaplain Marc
Abramowitz, Ft. Knox; Dr.
Ephraim Frankel, Atlanta; Rabbis
Irving Glickman, Louisville; and
Marc Volk, Jacksonville.
