Young Judaea had a “family
reunion” recently at the AJCC’s
Zaban building. Seventy children
and 20 leaders from Georgia.
Tennessee and Alabama gathered
together.
As is the custom with many
Jewish families, the weekend
began with Sabbath services, and
blessings over the candles, wine
and challah.
After services and Sabbath
dinner, the Young Judaeans were
placed on teams representing
different pioneer groups in Israel:
the “poalim” (workers); the
“ikarim" (farmers); “ironim” (city
dwellers); and the "shomrim”
(guards). For much of the
convention, the children learned
about the history of their group
and worked on songs, cheers and
skits to present on Sunday
morning.
One of the weekend’s highlights
was the final program when
parents of the children joined the
Young Judaeans for breakfast and
watched the team presentations.
The "ruach” and camaraderie
were evident throughout the
reunion, leaving no doubt that this
finally is here to stay.
