Isaac Habif (left) presents two plaques to Sara and Morris
Piha for gardens they have purchased in Israel. The gardens are in
the names of the "Luna and Rubin Piha Memorial Garden," and
the "David R. Franco Memorial Garden." Habif is vice president
of the Atlanta Jewish National Fund and Mrs. Piha is a member of
the board of directors.
The Bat Mitzva of Julie Ann
Miller of Atlanta will take place
at 8:30 a m. Saturday, Jan. 22,
at Congregation Shearith
Israel. A congregational
kiddush will follow.
Julie is the daughter of
Donald and Linda Miller, and
the granddaughter of Maurice
and Freda Krieger, and Jack
and Rose Miller, all of Atlanta.
She is the great-granddaughter
of Alma Krieger.
The B’nai Mitzva of Brad Michael Wolfe (left) and Keith David
Wolfe of Atlanta will take place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at
Ahavath Achim Synagogue.
They are the twin sons of Linda and Bert Wolfe, and the
grandsons of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Stone of Atlanta, Mrs. Gertrude
Wolfe of Hollywood, Fla., and the late Morton Wolfe.
Keith and Brad will share the pulpit with their cousin, Wendy
Buchman, who will be celebrating her Bat Mitzva.

Jay Kogon of Atlanta will take
place at 9 a m. Saturday, Jan.

Synagogue. A congregational
kiddush will follow.
He is the son of Marty and
Judy Kogon, and the grandson
of Gerald and Helen Cohen of
Atlanta, and Morris and Eve
l^.ogon of Meridian, Miss.
Dr. Melvin Kranzberg,
Callaway Professor of the History
of Technology at the Georgia
Institute of Technology, has
recently received severa
appointments.
Dr. Kranzberg has been named
as chairman of the.Congressional
Fellowship Committee, American
Historical Association. He will
also serve on the International
Advisory Committee, Institute for
History and Philosophy of Science
and Ideas at Tel Aviv University;
the International Advisory
Committee, Center for the History
of Philosophy of Science,
Medicine and Technology at
Hebrew University in Jerusalem;
and the Editorial Advisory Board
of History and Technology, an
international journal published in
Paris.

Dr. Leon Spotts, executive
director of the Atlanta Bureau of
Jewish Education, fecently
attended the Jewish Education
Service of North America
Incorporated’s annual mid-winter
conference for executives of
bureaus of Jewish education in
New York City.

Ms. Terry Franco, formerly of
Atlanta, now principal violist in
the Shreveport Symphony in
Shreveport, La., will perform in
New York City’s Carnegie Hall on
March 6
The performance will be a
benefit for the Fountainebleau
School of Music in Fountainebleau,
France, where Ms. Franco
attended on a scholarship last
summer.
One of five musicians in the
United States selected for the
performance, Ms Franco will play
in a quintet. She is the daughter of
Mrs. Norman Hoffman of
Atlanta.
The Bat Mitzva of Holly
Rosen of Atlanta will take place
at 10:30 a m. Saturday, Jan. 22,
at the Temple. A congregational
kiddush will follow.
She is the daughter of Linda
and Jerry Rosen, and the
granddaughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Israel, and Mr. and
Mrs. Hyman Rosen, all of
Philadelphia.

daughter of Emmanuel and
Alla Smeliansky of Moscow in
the Soviet Union. Misha is the
granddaughter of Anna

She is the daughter of Joyce
and Bill Buchman, and the
granddaughter of Shirley and
Irving Stone of Atlanta, and
Mrs. Ruth Buchman and the
late Manuel Buchman, of
Tampa, Fla.
Wendy will be joined on the
pulpit by her cousins, Keith and
Brad Wolfe, who will be
celebrating their B’nai Mitzva.
Jerome K. Chautin, president of
Atlanta-based Trust Realty
Funding Inc., will address the
attendees at Alan Crittenden’s
“Meet the Lenders" conference on
Feb. 3 and 4.
Chautin will discuss creative
long-term mortgages available for
real estate, secured small business
loans and long-term financing for
apartments through the use of
little-known conventional
mortgage program.
State Rep. Sidney Marcus of
Atlanta has been re-elected
chairman of the 19-member
Fulton County House Delegation.
Marcus, who received
unanimous approval from the
body, will serve his ninth
consecutive year as its chairman.
Marcus, who is beginning his
15th year in the Georgia
Legislature, is chairman of the
Health and Ecology Committee,
and a member of the Tax-Writing
Ways and Means Committee, as
well as the Rules Committee,
which controls the flow of
legislation to the House floor
during the final 21 days of each
legislative session.

Mr. and Mrs. IsidoreStruletz of
Miami Beach, Fla., formerly of La
Grange, Ga., recently were
honored on their 50th wedding
anniversary with a cocktail party
given by their children.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Moore of
Atlanta entertained their parents
at their home, along with their
other children, Mr. and Mrs.
Bernard Greenberg of Philadelphia
and William Struletz of Atlanta.
Isaac Stem, eminent violinist,
received an honorary doctorate at
Tel Aviv University from Prof.
Haim Ben-Shahar, president of
Tel Aviv University, at a ceremony
attended by leading music,
academic and public figures in
Israel.
The doctorate was conferred in
recognition of his outstanding
world stature as a musician and
violinist, and his contributions to
music the world over.
