One for the books
Atlanta Hillel/Federation was
cooking up big things over
Hanuka.
Billing it the "World’s Largest
Tatke," the Hillel students created
a potato latke measuring 17"*25',
which contained 25 potatoes, 10
onions, eight eggs, and various
other tasty items.
Marci Linder and Miriam
Stadtler of the Hillel staff prepared
the latke, with assistance coming
front Rabbi Danny Allen, Robert
Rosenbaum, Tom Schulman,
Sonya Danoff, and other Hillel
members.
The latke mixture filled
industrial cookie sheets provided
by a local bakery. The sheets took
up the entire top of a stove,
needing all four burners to cook.
The students took turns moving
the pan around in order to achieve
equal baking time on all parts of
th? monster latke.
When it was time to. flip the
overgrown pancake, a second
cookie sheet was placed on top of
the cooking latke and the entire
package was flipped.
When it was finally ready, it
took the 25 ravenous students only
30 minutes to devour the potato
feast.
The students were sorry to
report that the Guiness World
Record Book would not accept the
latke as an entry, since no such
category exists. However, Hillel
students will accept all challenges
to their record.
Not at all disappointed that they
weren't record setters, the students
plan even bigger and tastier latkes
in the years to come. /
