Plaque presentation
Mrs. Bea R. Simonoff (right) accepts a plaque from Herbert A.
Ringel, chairman of the board emeritus of the Jewish Children's
Service, at the recent annual meeting.
Mrs. Simonoff, recently retired executive director of the JCS,
received the recognition for her many years of devoted service. She
was also presented with a television.
New members appointed to the board of directors at the
meeting were: Louis O. Hertz, Robert C. Jessup and Sol Singer, all
of Atlanta; Boots Wittenberg of Augusta; Nathan B. Evens,
D.D.S. of Richmond, Va.; Meta Miller of Columbia, S.C.; Linda
G. Cohen of Charleston, S.C.; and Robert Speizman of Charlotte,
N.C. Nanette K. Winger, M.D. is the president of the JCS.

Atlanta ORT to attend
‘Capital Funds Affair’
Members of the Atlanta Region
ol Women’s American ORT will
attend a “Capital Funds Affair” on
Thursday, Jan. 20, at the home of-
Bonnie and Albert Beerman.
Speaker at the annual event will
be Beverly Minkoff, national
president of Women’s American
ORT.
The Capital Funds program was
created to provide for extra
budgetary needs within the ORT
program such as construction of a
school, building a library, kitchen
or infirmary, or purchasing
equipment and furnishings.
Linda Baron serves as Atlanta
Capital Funds chairwoman.

ready for donor luncheon
A kick-off meeting for the 15th
Annual Donor Luncheon of Or
VeShalom Sisterhood was held
recently.
The working luncheon began
the preparation for the
sisterhood’s donor which is
celebrating its 63rd anniversary.
The donor will W held at 11:30
a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2. Raising
funds for education at Or
VeShalom is the goal A fashion
show by Isaacson’s of Phipps
Plaza will be featured.
The sisterhood women planning

Jones, Mrs. Anne Birnbaum, vice
presidents; and Mrs. Sara

AJCC to begin winter
adult education classes
The Atlanta J^vish Community
Center will begin its winter adult
classes the week of Jan. 23, at both
the Peachtree and Zaban
branches.
Included in the offerings will be
“Marriage Enrichment Workshop,"
“Aerobic Dancing,” “Basic-ly
Simple Computers,” “Two Views
of Clay,” “Parents and Teens,”
“Hands-On Home Repair and
Maintenance,” “Overeaters
Anonymous,” “Creative Career
Planning,” “Mime Technique,”
“How to Buy and Finance Your
Own Business," ‘‘Beginning
Photography,” “Auto Mechanics"
and “How to Talk So Kids Will
Listen, and Listen So Kids Will
Talk."
The only classes with a different
starting date are the aerobic

Ice cream party
planned for scouts
The Atlanta Jewish Committee
on Scouting is sponsoring an ice
cream party at 2 p.m. Sunday,
Jan. 16, at the AJCC on Peachtree.
The party is for all Jewish Boy
and Girl Scouts.

The Shearith Israel Chorus Club
recently presented a Hanuka
program for the Jewish residents
of the Nursecare Nursing Home in
Buckhead.
Sponsored by the Shearith
Israel Sisterhood, the program
consisted of lighting the Hanuka
candles led by Rabbi Marc Wilson,
followed by the singing of
traditional Hanuka songs.
Refreshments were served to the
Jewish and non-Jewish residents
of the home.
Children participating in the
program were: Rachel Baum,
Jennifer Braun, Joshua Braun,
‘ORT Sabbath’
With January heralding the start
of the 25th year of services by the
Atlanta Region of Women's
American ORT, the Atlanta
Jewish community will join 18
local ORT chapters in the
celebration of the worldwide
organization’s annual “ORT
Sabbath” on Friday, Jan. 14.
The event observes the “Seventh
Day of a Week of ORT Education
in the Jewish Community," at
which time ORTs accomplishments
as the largest non-governmental
vocational and technical training
program in the world will be
recognized, not only by its own
Jewish War Veterans Suburban
Post 1980 will hold its next
meeting at 10 a.m. Sunday. Jan.
16, at the YMCA on Clairmont
Road in Decatur.
