A
Zigun chosen as recipient
of Glenn scholarship award
Suzanne Zigun has been chosen
as the second recipient of an award
from the Pauline Glenn Israel
Scholarship Fund.
The fund, created in 1980 by
friends of the late Pauline Glenn,
exists to encourage and enable
local students to study in a
recognized university in Israel. The
fund is part of the Atlanta Jewish
Federation’s Endowment Fund
Program, which was initiated in
1980 to provide a means for
Federation to meet a variety of
special needs, which are not part of
the annual campaign.
Mrs. Zigun is studying in the
Shalhevet program of the Neve
Yerushalayim Academy in
Jerusalem. This is an advanced
program designed to train teachers
in instruction techniques for use
with biblical texts and
commentaries.
She and her husband Jeffrey, a
medical student on leave from the
University of Connecticut School
of Medicine who is studying
medical halacha, plan to return to
the States after spending this year
in Israel. Mrs. Zigun hopes to
combine her degree in biology and
Judaic studies and teach while her
husband finishes medical school
Her teaching career will embody
the integration of Judaism and
secular studies.
The Atlanta Jewish Federation’s
Endowment Fund Program
consists of various kinds of
contributions by benefactors.
These contributions may take the
form of bequests, charitable
remainder trusts, donor-named
philanthropic funds and special
designated funds such as the Glenn
AJAC plans program
The Atlanta Jewish Awareness
Committee (AJAC) will sponsor a
film and panel discussion on
Sunday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. at
the Standard Club.
This program is one of a
continuing series of educational
and social programs designed by
AJAC to provide the opportunity
for young Jewish Atlantans to
come together to strengthen their
awareness of and involvement in
the Jewish community.
The film, “Now...After AH
These Yesri," was made by two
West German film makers who
wanted to understand and tell the
story of the German town, Rhina,
whose entire Jewish population—
half the town — disappeared
overnight without a trace.
The film, winner of several
awards for excellence, is
interesting in that it was produced
in Germany and is a living
testimony to the Holocaust—a
living record of time past, time not
allowed to be forgotten.
AJAC is an offshoot, of the
Atlanta Jewish Federation's
Leadership Development
Committee and is presently co
chaired by Stan Lefco and Annette
Marcus. Its programs are open lo
all young Jewish Atlantans.

Holocaust survivors
gather in Washington
NEW YORK—One of the
largest gatherings of Jewish
Holocaust survivors ever has now
mushroomed in attendance
expectations to 20,000 participants,
encouraging its organizers to move
opening'ceremonies on Monday,
April 11, to Washington’s largest
arena—Capital Center. 4,
Benjamin Meed, president of the
American Gathering of Jewish
Holocaust Survivors, said that the
move was made “because of the
extremely large number of
survivors and their families who
have shown active interest in the
April 11-14 event.”
Meed said that “every survivor,
seepnd generation participant,
member of the Washington Jewish
community and community leader
who would wish to take part in the
opening ceremonies can now do
so.”
In addition to a spectacular
multi-media presentation at the
opening ceremony, the assembly
on April 11 will feature the
ceremonial U.S. Navy Band,
performances- by choirs and
soloists, as well as appearances of
distinguished public leaders.”
Meed predicted in excess
of 15,000 participants from
every state of the union and
Canada, who will mark the 40th
anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto
Uprising and Jewish spiritual and
armed resistance to Nazi
oppression.
