The AJCC/BBYO production
of “The Boyfriend,” under the
direction of Beverly Shmerling,
will be performed on Dec. 15 and
17 at 8 p.m., and on Dec. 18 at 3
p.m. and 7:30 p.m., all at the
Atlanta Jewish Community
Center on Peachtree. Tickets are

Temple hosts college
homecoming dinner
The Temple’s college students
are invited to join Rabbi Alvin
Sugarman for a homecoming
dinner on Friday, Dec. 23.
The reunion Shabbat dinner will
be held at the Colony Square
Hotel, in conjunction with the
S.E.F.T.Y. Winter Regional
Youth Convention. Dinner will be
followed by Shabbat services, led
by S.E.F.T.Y. members, and an
oneg shabbat, sponsored by The
Temple Sisterhood.

The AJCC and The Temple
announce the winter schedule for
the Institute for Adult Enrichment
which will be held at The Temple.
The Institute, a continuing-
education program for retired and
semi-retired men and women,
appeals to people from all walks of
life. In the past, sessions have been
held at various synagogues.
Sessions will begin on Monday,
Jan. 9, and continue for eight
consecutive Mondays through
$5 general admission; $4 for center
members; $3 for students; and $2
for senior citizens.
The play was written by Sandy
Wilson. Brian Mercer is musical
director.

is Wildwood women’s topic
The Wildwood Pines Garden
Club will hold its next meeting at
10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at the
home of Eleanor Parks.
Lunch will be served. Hostesses

and Irma Shulman.
The program is a lecture-
dewionstrmtion on Japanese flower

OVS women plan
tour of history exhibit
The Or VeShalom Sisterhood
will sponsor a night at the Schatten
Gallery at Emory University to
view the exhibit “The 250 Year
History of Jews in Georgia," on
Dec. 15.
Those attending will meet at the
synagogue at 7:30 p.m. and will
proceed by car to the gallery. For

Feb. 27.
Classes run from 10 a.m. to 3
p.m., and cover topics and courses
which pertain to Jewish History,
Literature, Exercise for Physical
Fitness, Health, Beginner’s Bridge
and Customs and Laws of
Judaism. A kosher lunch is
prepared at the AJCC and served
at The Temple.

Dec. 11 breakfast meeting
The regular meeting of the
Bicentennial Sentry Post 976 will
be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11,

to meet with Rabbi Kravhz
Pioneer Women Club I will hold
its regular monthly luncheon at
noon Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the
Jewish Tower.
The speaker is Rabbi Robert L.
Kravitz of Temple Beth David. His
subject is “The Fourth R in
Education.”

The Temple lends
’Helping Hand’ to needy
The Temple invites the
community to its “Helping Hand"
Shabbat at 8:15 p.m. Friday, Dec.
16.
The Rev. Bill Henderson,
director of street ministries at St.
Luke’s Episcopal Church, will
discuss the plight of the homeless
in the city of Atlanta. The role of
soup kitchens, food banks and
shelter programs will be addressed.
The Temple's service and
presentation will kick off the
second year of the “Helping Hand"
program, which has focused upon
collecting canned goods and
clothing. The contributions are
distributed regularly to local
organizations who directly serve
Atlanta’s needy. Donation boxes
are located in The Temple lobby,
and contributions from the
community are welcome.

Chana Shapiro to lead
Jewish book review
“The Jewish Head and the
Yiddish Heart — Peretz and
Aleichem” will be discussed by
Mrs. Chana Shapiro for the Jewish
Book Review Club on Wednesday,
Dec. 14
She will read representative
selections from these two pivotal
figures in classic Yiddish literature
and discuss their style and impact.
Mrs. Shapiro is director of
children’s program services for the
Atlanta Jewish Community
Center and teaches a literature
course at the Adult Institute of
Jewish Studies.
The meeting will be held at 10:30
a.m., in the Conference Room of
the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish
Education.

The B’nai Torah Brotherhood
will meet at 9:30 a.m. Sunday,
Dec. II, at the synagogue.
The speaker will be Dr. Henry
Kandel, Ph.D., child and sports
psychologist. His topic will be
“Children and Sports."
All fathers whose children
participate in sports activities are
invited.

Coping with the conflict and
stress resulting from the breakup
of a marriage has become an
increasing reality for Jewish
families. In American society,
divorce occurs in one out of three
marriages. These divorces create
problems for all members of the
family.
To help the children, custodial
parents and non-custodial parents
deal with the changing roles they
play, the Outreach Program of
Jewish Family Services Inc. will
present a five-session Family Life
Education Workshop for single
parents and their children. The
workshop will be offered on
Wednesday evenings beginning Jan.
4 and runs through early February.
Because the Jewish community
places a strong emphasis on family
life, the divorced parent often feels
isolation or lack of support. The
emphasis may not always be
perceived as flexible enough to
include “single-parent family" in

anger, sadness and abandonment
that children of divorce sometimes
feel; the adjustments divorced
parents have to make in dating and
meeting new people; and the
demands put on both the custodial
and non-custodial parents in
relating to and disciplining their
children.
The fee for the workshop is $25
for adults and $10 for children.
Separate groups will be held
simultaneously for parents and
children from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at
