Filler to receive Heritage Award
at Birmingham’s Bonds Dinner
Jimmy Filler will receive Israel’s
Heritage Award at the Birmingham
Israel Bonds Testimonial Dinner
to be held Sunday, Dec. 1, at the
Pine Tree Country Club.
Filler has served as general chair
man of the Birmingham State of
Israel Bonds Campaign for the
past decade. In addition, he has
held several Southeast Region
Cabinet positions for Israel Bonds.
He has served on the boards of the
Birmingham Jewish Federation, the
Birmingham Jewish Foundation
and the Jewish Community Center,
as well as serving as a vice president
of Temple Beth-El.
A lifelong resident of Birmingham,
Filler is president of Jefferson Iron
and Metal Company. He and his
wife, Carol, have one daughter,
Nan.
“This dinner gives our community
an opportunity to pay tribute to an
outstanding leader and at the same
Jimmy Filler
time demonstrate our partnership
with the people of Israel in this
time of economic difficulty,” said
Mrs. Steven Glazer, chairman of
the dinner.
“Israel’s new unity government
has sharply cut its budgets to cope
with the current challenges,” she
continued. “With the people of
Israel making sacrifices, Israel’s
friends abroad must do their share
to provide the development funds
the nation needs at this time.”
Mrs. Glazer pointed out that,
since 1951, the Israel Bond Organi
zation has been a major source of
investment capital for every aspect
of the nation's economy.
The local committee includes
Sidney Ziff, coordinator and soli
citation chairman; Mrs. AbeEpsman,
Knesseth Israel Congregation;
Howard Sokol, Temple Beth-Fl;
and Leonard Barasch, Temple
Emanu-El; synagogue chairmen;
Rabbis Steven Jacobs, Steven Glazer
and Harry Rosen are honorary
chairmen.
Herschel Fox, singer, actor and
comedian, will be the guest entertainer
for the evening.
