Jan. 8, 1986.
Six levels of Hebrew instruction
will be offered from basic alphabet
skills, through advanced conver
sation. The popular Yiddish class
will be continued, and the advanced
class will again be instituted.
The Winter quarter will feature
three eight-week courses: Exploring
the Commandments. Rabbi Yossi
New. instructor; Dynamics of Jewish
Identity and Faith. Dr. James W.
Fowler. Emory University, and
Roberta Louis. The Temple, instruc
tors; and Modem Ethical Dilemmas:
What Would the Prophets Say'’

Jewish film festival, co-sponsored

and Temple Sinai
The bureau w ill also co-sponsor
the Israeli Film Festival, featuring
films produced and filmed in Israel,
at the AJCC/Peachtree and Emory
University.
Temple Sinai will host a four-
week course entitled Aging in Judaism
is a Lifelong Process, to be presented
by Rabbi Phil Kranz and various
professionals who are involved with
the growing elderly population in
our community. Also, a course in
Basic Judaism, hosted by Congrega
tions Beth David and B’nai Israel
will be held. Instructor is Rabbi
William Sajowitz, who will present
these classes every other week.

The Gesher Tzion Chapter of

BBYO is set to kick off
‘Runoffs ’85’ on Dec. 15
“Runoffs ’85: Let the Good
Times Roll” will be a weekend in
which 17 BBYO chapters and indivi
dual chapter members participate
in events ranging from singing to
photography to debate. On Dec.
15, all registered eighth graders are
invited to attend and participate in
runoffs from 2-4:30 p.m. at the
AJCC/Peachtree. BBYO’s new
members will create banners, write
songs, and join in the “togetherness”
of Atlanta Council BBYO. The
eighth graders’ work will then be
presented to all with an award
ceremony to follow at 4 p.m.

The Atlanta Jewish Youth Workers’
Council and the Atlanta Bureau of
Jewish Education announce the
second annual Teen Conference
for Atlanta’s Jewish youth. This
year’s conference, “Judaism And
A Free Society,” will deal with
Jewish Views on Substance Abuse;
Do Jews Vote With Their Hearts
or Their Pocketbooks?; Jewish
Dialogue, Communications Between
the Orthodox, Conservative and
Reform; The Nuclear Arms Race,
Jewish Responses; The Fight Against
Hunger, Jewish Responsibility; Media
Influence or Our Perspectives of
the Middle East and Israel; Environ
mental Protection—Is It A Jewish
Concern; Jewish Medical Ethics;
Tzaar Baaley Chayim (Jewish Views
on Animal Rights); Censorship;
and the Ethics of Jewish Protest.
The conference is scheduled for
Jan. 26,1986, at Emory University’s
White Hall. Registration begins at
9:30 a.m.; the program will end at 1
p.m. Students will attend a short
orientation on the activities of the
program and then attend two one-
hour workshops. At the end of the
workshops, all participants will gather
for a closing summary of the day’s
events.
All Jewish teens 13-18 are welcome.
