The Bat Mitzva of Shauna
Goldin ofTucker will take place
at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at
Congregation Beth Shalom. A
congregational kiddush will
follow.
Shauna is the daughter of
Janet and Andy Goldin. Grand
parents are Linda and Paul Goldin
of Atlanta, Mildred Strassburger
of Atlanta, and Hal Strassburger
of Florida.
Shauna will share her Bat
Mitzva with Irina Bronshtein of
Leningrad.
Rabbi Joseph H. Ehrenkranz of
Stamford, Conn., and Rabbi Arnold
S. Turetsky of White Plains, N.Y.,
have been appointed permanent
non-governmental organization
representatives to the U nited Nations
representing the Synagogue Council
of America, the national organization
of the congregational and rabbinic
bodies of Conservative, Orthodox
and Reform Judaism.
The Bar Mitzva of Justin Zion
of Atlanta will take place at 10:30
a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at The Temple.
A congregational kiddush will follow.
Justin is the son of Sam Zion.
Atlantan Tracy Taratoot,
daughter of Bubba and Gerry
Taratoot. is studying in Israel
on Young Judaea’s Year Course
in Israel. Tracy has deferred
admission to study art on an
advanced level to experience
Israel and study Hebrew and
Judaica.
Sammy Tuck, son of Leon
and Rhina Tuck of Atlanta, is
also with Tracy on the Year
Course.
Professor Michael Sela, outgoing
president of the Weizmann Institute
of Science, was one of only three
non-Mexicans to be awarded an
honorary doctorate by the National
Autonomous University of Mexico
at a ceremony held recently in
Mexico City to mark the 75th
anniversary of its establishment.
Sela, a world-famous immuno
logist, was chosen because of his
scientific achievements and because
of his close links with, and contri
butions to, Mexican science over
the last 18 years.
The Bat Mitzva of Lisa Miriam
King of Atlanta will take place
at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at
Congregation Etz Chaim. A
congregational kiddush will
follow.
Lisa is the daughter of Joan
and Stephen King. Grandparents
are Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Eden of
Atlanta, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry
King of Jamaica, N.Y. Great
grandmother is Malvina Fruchter
of the Bronx, N.Y.
Hilary Weiner will perform a
preview senior piano pedagogy
recital at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec.
28, at Jim Scott Music Store,
3412 Clairmont Road. The
program will include works by
Scarlatti, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt
and Bartok.
She is a student of Jane
McDaniel at Webster University
in St Louis, and, when in Atlanta,
of Ms. Beverly Beren.
Hilary is the daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. Daniel Weiner of
Atlanta. Grandmother is Mrs.
Annie Barskin of Atlanta.
Susan E. Weikers of Philadelphia
has been named national chairman
of the Israel Bonds Women’s Division.
She has been active in the Israel
Bond campaign for more than 10
years.
Ms. Weikers is not only the
youngest woman, but also the first
business woman ever to be named
to this national position in Israel
Bonds.

Congregation Shearith Israel was
recently awarded a permanent
Hebrew principal’s license by the
National Board ol License ol Jewish
Education Services ol Nort h America.
He is the synagogue’s assistant
rabbi and director of youth education.
Newcomers
Karen and David Birnbrey of
Atlanta announce the birth of a
son, Jonathan Drew, on Dec. 3.
Maternal grandparents are Judy
and Albert Weycer of Houston.
Paternal grandparents are Ricky
and Henry Birnbrey of Atlanta.
Jonathan was given the Hebrew
name Ya’akov Dov in memory of
his maternal great-grandfather. Jacob
David Weycer. The bris was per
formed by Dr. Mark Safra.

Rabbi and Mrs. Steven Ettinger
of Bayonne, N.J., announce the
birth of a daughter, Pamela Beth,
on the third day of Hanuka, Dec.
10. Mrs. Ettinger shares the same
Hebrew birthday.
Pamela was given the Hebrew
name Elke Pesha in honor of her
paternal great-grandmother Elsie
Kraft of Kansas City and her
maternal great-grandmother Anna
Rubenstein of Bayonne.
The namingceremony took place
at the Friday morning service,
Dec. 13, Rosh Chodesh Tevet, at
Congregation Ohav Zedek, where
Rabbi Ettinger is spiritual leader.
He is also a practicing trial attorney
with the IRS, assigned to the District
Council of New York.
Grandparents are Rabbi and Mrs.
Zvi Ettinger of Dalton, Ga., and
Mrs. Lenore Shulman of Bayonne
and the late Herbert Shulman.
The Bar Mitzva of Bernie
Egozi of North Miami Beach,
formerly of Atlanta, will take
place Saturday, Jan. 4, at Temple
Menorah in Miami Beach. A
congregational kiddush will
follow.
Bernie is the son of Sara and
Jose Egozi. Grandparents are
Josephine and Abraham Lew
and Mrs. Luisa Egozi, all of
Miami.
Bernie attended the Hebrew
Academy in Atlanta and is now
a student at the Alexander Gross
Hebrew High School in Miami.
Many relatives and friends
from Atlanta will attend the
Bar Mitzva.
Frank Dimant, executive vice
president of B’nai B’rith Canada,
has been named executive vice presi
dent and chief executive officer of
the League for Human Rights of
B’nai B’rith Canada.
Kathleen Pulner, editor of the Atlanta Jewish Community Center’s
newsletter, Centerline, receives certification from Lionel Koppman,
J WB director of public information. The presentation was made at
the end of the second JWB/JCC PR Institute in St. Louis for
Jewish community center professionals with public relations
assignments.

The hospital will use this donation to purchase a cardiac monitor,
which is used during open heart surgery and related procedures.
Stanley Tenenbaum is a member of B’nai B’rith and Ahavath Achim
Synagogue. He helps support the Jewish Home, High Museum of
Art and Technion Society. Alan Gerber is a member of Temple
Emanu-El.
