AJF will check capital goings-on
during Washington Scene III
The Atlanta Jewish Federation’s
Washington Scene III, a day of
personal briefings by government
officials and experts in Washington,
D.C., is set for Wednesday, Feb. 5,
according to Mark Lichtenstein
and Jay Davis, co-chairmen.
The program, which will take
Atlantans to the nation’s capital
on a chartered Delta plane, will
cover a wide range of current issues.
A number of distinguished individuals
have been invited to speak to the
group. Tom Dine, executive director
of AIPAC(American Israel Public
Affairs Committee) and M. J.
Rosenberg, editor of “The Near
East Report” are slated to brief
participants on the American political
scene.
Experts in the field of terrorism,
including Judge Abraham Sofaer,
chief legal counsel, Department of
State; Dr. Joyce Starr and Dr.
Michael Ledeen, both of Georgetown
University, have been invited to
address the topic of “Terrorism:
the Challenge to America.”

Invited speakers on the American
economy are Paul Volker, chairman
of the Federal Reserve Bank;
Secretary James Baker and Secretary
Malcolm Baldridge. Reps. Jack
Kemp (R-N.Y.) and Richard A.
Ciephardt(D -Mo.) have been asked
to present an update on the proposed
tax bill. Howard Teicher of the
National Security Council will speak
on U.S. policy in the Middle East.
Participants will also have the
opportunity to meet with members
of the Georgia delegation.
A tentative schedule calls for
departures from Atlanta at 7 a.m.,
with arrivals back home at 10 p.m.
The cost of the trip is $100 and a
$2,500 minimum pledge to the 1986
Campaign.
The Washington Scene III steering
committee has worked hard to put
together an exciting and informative
program. Steering committee
members are Morris Arnovitz, Asher
Benator, Dr. Richard Franco,
Douglas Freedman, Larry Joseph,
Dr. Fred Katz, Dr. Alan Lippitt,
Michael Margolis, Howard Sachs,
Dr. Harvey Sacks, William Shenk
and Dr. Harvey Silverman.
“The repeated participation of
many individuals is an indication
of the popularity of the Washington
III program,”said Gerald Horowitz,
general chairman of the 1986
Campaign. “This year’s program
offers something of interest for
past participants as well as individuals
who have not attended before.”

early reservations are encouraged.
