Oraaniiations
ABJE to sponsor cable
series with Rabbi New
Beginning5:30-6:30p.m. Monday,
Feb. 3, and for five Mondays there
after, the Bureau of Jewish Education
will sponsor a series of programs
entitled “Exploring the Command
ments,” instructed by Rabbi Yossie
New, director, Chabad of Georgia,
on Cable8T.V., the Atlanta Interfaith
Broadcasting Channel. Rabbi New
will select a different law each
week, giving an in-depth analysis
of the major commandments of
Torah.
The programs will have been
filmed during classes which are
part of the Adult Institute Series of
the Bureau of Jewish Education.
Tom Houck to address
NCSY Supper Seminar
NCS Y will be holding two special
events in the upcoming weeks. At
6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at
Beth Jacob Synagogue, Tom Houck,
noted political commentator and
talk show host for WGST, will
speak at NCSY’s monthly Supper
Seminar banquet.
On the weekend of February 14-
16, the Atlanta Chapter of NCSY
is going to Miami Beach for the
NCSY Southern Region Spring
Shabbaton. Cost is $80 for members,
$96 for non-members.
NCS Y is a youth group affiliated
with Congregation Beth Jacob, and
is open to all Jewish teens, grades

plan Champagne Donor
Shearith Israel Sisterhood will
hold its annual Champagne Donor
at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at the

Author of‘Our Crowd’
to speak at The Temple
Stephen Birmingham will speak
at The Temple Sunday, Feb. 23.
Birmingham is the author of
numerous best-selling works, in
cluding “Our Crowd: The Great
Jewish Families of New York” and
“The Rest of Us: The Rise of
America’s Eastern European Jews.”
The program, which begins at
7:30 p.m., includes a lecture by
Birmingham, followed by an auto
graph session and the opportunity
to purchase his latest novel, “LeBaron
Secret.” Dessert will be served.

Kehillah Lodge preparing
auction at Jerry Farber’s
Kehillah Lodge of B’nai B’rith
concluded 1985 by supporting two
major community service projects—
Bernie Eisenstein’s Christmas party
for over 500 special citizens and the
Christmas day volunteer program
at the Jewish Home. The lodge
begins 1986 with a Super Bowl
membership party at the home of
Gary Glancz, 1517 Stonebrook Place,
Roswell. All prospective members

The lodge is also now planning
its third annual auction of goods
and services for the support of
B’nai B’rith Youth Services, to be

show. The public is invited.
Ha’Makor plans outing
to Jerry Farber’s Place
Ha’Makor, The Temple’s young
adults group, will hold a Havdalah
and dessert program at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 25, at The Temple.
Following dessert, the group will
go to Jerry Farber’s Place in
Buckhead. The cost for “Farber’s”
is $7 a person; the dessert is free.

Teachers’ conference set for January 27 at ABJE
The Atlanta Bureau of Jewish
Education Inc. is sponsoring a Day
School Teacher’s Conference from
27, at its office on 1745 Peachtree
Road, N.E. 7 he conference will
feature Rabbi Samuel K. Joseph,
associate professor of Jewish religious
education, Hebrew Union College,
Jewish Institute of Religion, Cincin
nati, Ohio. Rabbi Joseph, whose
keynote address is “Establishing A
Positive LearningClimate: Student
Motivation,” is the author of
numerous articles and was honored
by the Kohl Education Foundation
in 1985 as a finalist in its national
award for exemplary teaching.
Approximately 90 local day school
teachers from the Epstein School,
the Hebrew Academy, Torah Day
School and Yeshiva High School
will have the choice of attending
the following workshops: “How
Do You Teach Menschlichekeit?”

Donors needed at Feb. 2 blood drive
Jewish Home residents
will celebrate birthdays
Each month the National Council
of Jewish Women sponsors a birthday
party at the Jewish Home. The
residents who have celebrated a
birthday during that month are
feted on the last Tuesday of the
month.
The honorees for the Jan. 28
party will be Hedwig Baer, Moses
Berman, Rosalie Boorstein, Ruth
Kushner, Philip Lefkowitz, Gertrude
Levy, Harry Mills, Ida Thirman,
Selma Wasserman and Sol Yudelson.
Ice cream cake for all residents
and guests and a gift for each
birthday celebrant is provided at
the 7:30 p.m. event. The Evening
Branch is an active participant in
arranging several of the monthly
parties.
A second birthday party will be
given at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan.
29, for the third floor residents.
From 9 a.m.-l p.m. Sunday,
Feb. 2, the Atlanta Post #112,
Jewish War Veterans of the United
States and Ladies Auxiliary will
hold their 146th consecutive quarterly
blood drive at the Ahavath Achim
Synagogue.
The need for blood at this time
of the year is especially great. It is
perfectly safe to donate blood and
there is no discomfort. The Red
Cross will see to it that all blood
donors as well as blood recipients
are protected. Anybody in good
health between the ages of 17 and
66 may be qualified to donate
blood. If you are unable to give,
please help us by spreading the
word among family and friends.
