Dental Fraternity Convention held recently in Boston.
Alpha Omega, a predominantly Jewish dental organization of about 12,000 members worldwide,
honored Dr. Mark Nashpitz, a Soviet dentist and former Prisoner of Conscience and refusnik, at its opening
ceremonies. The fraternity conducted a continuous letter-writing campaign to their government officials
and political leaders in Moscow to secure Nashpitz’ release.
Atlanta teens getting ready
for High School in Israel trip
Lee Weiss, a junior at Walton
High School, and Rebecca Kessler,
a Peachtree High School senior,
will join over 200 youths from
across the United States as they
leave for Israel to begin the February/
March session of the Alexander
Muss High School in Israel.
High School in Israel, an eight-
week academic experience, will offer
Lee and Rebecca the opportunity
to combine learning and fun, studying
and discussion, interpersonal relation
ships and travel, and growth and
development.
High School in Israel, which is
under the auspices of the Atlanta
Bureau of Jewish Education Inc.
within the Atlanta area, is designed
to acquaint 11th and 12th grade
students with the birthplace of
Western civilization—Israel. The
high-intensity program, offered five
times during the year, utilizes an
interdisciplinary curriculum. Elaine
Gruenhut, Atlanta director of ad
missions and staff person of the
Atlanta Bureau of Jewish Education,
works closely with the local school,
student and parents to establish a
curriculum that tits into each student’s
academic schedule of required and
elective courses.
“Well known within the collegiate
community, High School in Israel
gives students the competitive edge,”
says Ms. Gruenhut. adding that
“College applicants with H igh School
in Israel experience in their credentials
do well in college admissions.”
Incentive grants are available in
the Atlanta area through the Atlanta
Jewish Federation Endowment Fund
as well as from the state of Israel.
