Prof. Michael Albeck, one of
Israel’s leading scientists and edu
cators, who has been rector of Bar-
llan University in Ramat Gan since
1982, has succeeded Dr. Emanuel
Rackman as president of the uni
versity.
Dr. Emanuel Rackman was ele
vated to the post of university
chancellor.

Lisa Jan Kerker of Atlanta is
included in the 1985-86 “Who’s
Who Among Students in American
Universities and Colleges.” She has
also been elected to Alpha Eta
National Honor Society for students
in allied health.
She expects to earn a bachelor of
science degree in radiologic techno
logies from the Medical College of
Georgia in June.
She is the daughter of Jo Ann
and Jack Kerker.

Stephen S. C'owen of Atlanta
was recently sworn in as U.S.
Attorney for the Northern District
of Georgia, United States Justice
Department. Cowen was in charge
of the Criminal Division in the U.S.
Attorney’s Office prior to this ap
pointment.
He is the son of Bette and David
Cowen.

Lenore S. Jacobs of Atlanta
has been selected as the Star
Student for Yeshiva High
School of Atlanta in recogni
tion of her SAT score, the high
est in the senior class. She will
choose a teacher currently at
the school as Star Teacher to
accompany her to the State
Star Banquet to be held at the
Atlanta Merchandise Mart.
She was also chosen as one of
the Yeshiva High School partici
pants in the City of Atlanta
Junior Leadership Program in
1985, is co-captain of the girls’
basketball team and co-business
manager of the yearbook.
For next year, she is consider
ing attending the University of
Georgia, which has offered her
a University of Georgia Alumni
Merit Scholarship, Emory, or
Ithaca College in New York, or
spending a year in Israel on the
Young Judaea Year Course Pro
gram before starting college.
She is the daughter of Julian
and Norma Glazer Jacobs.
Sen. Lawton Chiles (D-Fla.) is
the recipient of the America-lsrael
Friendship Award ofthe Southeast
Region of B’nai Zion.

fraternal organization in the United
States, represents more than 30,000
families.
Rabbi Emanuel Feldman of Con
gregation Beth Jacob will be a
featured lecturer in the 100th anni
versary lecture series of Congrega
tion Ohev Shalom Talmud Torah in
Washington, D.C.
Feldman will speak on “Modern
Day Orthodoxy: Reality or Facade.”

Hal is the son of Fred and

Judith G. Taylor has been
appointed chairperson of the
Jewish Women of Achievement
Oral History Advisory
Committee.
J he project, co-sponsored by
the American Jewish Commit
tee (AJC) and NCJW, was
launched last spring. Twenty-
five interviewers have been
attending monthly training ses
sions and recording the memoirs
of outstanding Jewish women
in Atlanta. The project is co
chaired by Dr. Roberta Golden
and Libby Johnson from AJC
and Terry Epstein and Beth
Isaacson from NCJW.
Mrs. Taylor has held leader
ship positions in both organiza
tions. She serves on the board
of directors of United Way,
Leadership Atlanta, Big Bro
thers/Big Sisters. YWCA and
Atlanta Jewish Federation.
Barbara and Marc Bresler of Los
Angeles announce the birth of a
son, Noah Benjamin, on Jan. 6.

Rabbi Peterman was the spiri
tual leader of Congregation Beth
