The political oppression and
suffering endured by Soviet Jews
were brought to life in Rosin
Fernhoffs performance of “Sha
dows,” the story of a Russian
dancer seeking asylum in the
United States. The production was
performed for the Merit and
Young Leadership Divisions of the
Federation’s Women Division, at
the Pavillion last week.

AJF forum casts
eye on the art of
‘grantsmanship’
the Merit Division. Sandra
Horowitz, Judy Schulman, and
Mavis Wener are co-chairmen of
the Division. Viki Freeman and
Lois Kuniansky are co-chairmen
of the YLC Women’s Division
Campaign. Patti Brown and
Margo Edlin served as co-chair
men for the event.
The Women’s Division has
raised more than $900,000 for the
1986 Campaign.
“Grantsmanship" was the topic
of a recent three hour seminar
sponsored by the Atlanta Jewish
Federation at the request of jt s
beneficiary agencies. Dr. Marvin
Weintraub, director of continuing
education at Georgia State
University, conducted the seminar
for an audience of representatives
from the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish
Education, Atlanta Jewish Com
munity Center, Jewish Children’s
Service, Jewish Family Services,
Jewish Vocational Service, the
Epstein School, Yeshiva High
School, the Jewish Home and the
Federation.
Dr. Weintraub provided step-
by-step procedures for developing,
researching and writing grants. His
talk was enhanced by a number of
hand-outs providing helpful hints
and sound resource information to
beneficiary representatives.
Several of the participants have
written successful grants for
various programs for their
agencies. Others had no grant
writing experience. All agreed that
the Federation, in response to their
executive directors’ request, had
provided an informative and
thought-provoking session with
Dr. Weintraub, which they hope
will enable them to more ef
fectively tap the resources of
foundation and government
funding.
