dence of alcoholism and drug
addiction in the Jewish commun
ity, Rabbi Feldman of Congrega
tion Beth Jacob helped form a
study group for Jews in recovery.
He will talk about his experiences
with this group and their families.

A.A. launches food drive
for the needy of Purim
Before the first reading of the
Megillah in synagogue on Purim,
adults contribute to charity, a
remembrance of the half-shekel
tax collected in biblical times for
support of the Temple. The Book
of Esther tells us that Purim was to
be celebrated by giving gifts to one
another and by extending help to
the poor.
In this spirit, Ahavath Achim
synagogue is sponsoring a food
drive during Purim. Canned goods
can be brought to the synagogue

Sunday, March 30. The food will
be sent to the Atlanta Community
Food Bank.

be placed throughout the syna

The lodge won two awards at the
recent Georgia State Association's
state convention banquet: most
outstanding lodge—for the second
consecutive year, and most out
standing project for 1985 —a
charity ball which raised $4500 for
the Jewish Home and branches of
B’nai B’rith, Hillel and BBYO.
Purim Casino planned
by B’nai Torah March 22
Congregation B’nai Torah will
sponsor a Purim Casino Extrava
ganza at 8 p.m. Saturday, March
22, at the synagogue. In addition to
casino games, there will be an auc
tion of items and trips, and an
array of desserts as well as a cash
bar.
Additional prizes will be
awarded for best costumes. Dona
tion is $12.50 a person in advance,

to host party March 24
Chabad of Georgia and Congre
gation Beth Tefillah will hold a
Megillah reading and masquerade

Kehillah Lodge to hold
charity auction March 16
Kehillah Lodge of B’nai B’rith
will hold its third annual charity
auction at 2 p.m. Sunday, March
16, at Jerry Farber’s Place, 54
Pharr Road.
There is a $5 cover charge and
jewelry, decorator wall coverings
and professional services will be
put up for bid. Jerry Farber will
provide entertainment.
Proceeds from the auction will
fund teenage and college programs

Katzir to discuss peace
at Emory on March 25
Issachar Katzir, consul General
of Israel for the Southeastern Uni
ted States, will discuss “The Search
for Peace in the Middle East” at
4:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, in
Room 205 White Hall, Emory
University.

The Temple to celebrate
Purim with family dinner
The Temple will hold a Purim
celebration from 5-8 p.m. Sunday,
March 23. The evening will feature
The Temple Youth Group’s Purim
Carnival. Entertainment will in
clude Mr. Mime and The Wizard,
Dan Garrett. A buffet dinner will
be topped off with hamentashen.
The best king and queen and
prince and princess will be
crowned, so costumes may be
worn. Prizes will be awarded to
children and adults.
