get charter, elect slate
The Reform Jewish Students
Alliance (RJSA) of the University
of Georgia recently elected the
following officers: Lani Chernau,
president; Alison Fields, vice
president; Glen Dynin, secre
tary treasurer; and Scott Miller,
religious chairman. The student
organization was recently granted
its charter from the division of
Student Activities.
In February the students visited
Atlanta to share an evening with the
RJSC of Emory. The RJSA held
an ice cream study break on March
13. Upcoming events include
Shabbat services, a bowling party
and membership drive.

The Temple to observe
Jewish Music Shabbat
T he Temple will observe its Jew
ish Music Month Shabbat on Fri
day. March 2!.
Temple director of music, Wal
lace Zimmerman, is composing an
original Shabbat service for choir,
cantorial soloists and organ. The
music is dedicated to the memory
of Frank S. Kaufmann, who was a
Temple volunteer and chairman of
the Worship and Music Commit
tee for many years.
Service begins at 8:15 p.m. and
Oneg Shabbat co-sponsored by the
Kaufmann family will follow.
Talk on depression set
by Jewish Home Council
The Jewish Home Family
Council will meet at 7:30 p.m.
Monday, April 7 at the Jewish
Home.
Dr. Tarry Baker will speak on
‘Depression.” He is certified in
general and child psychiatry by the
American Board of Psychiatry and
Neurology.
The Council consists of family
members or residents in the Home
and meets the first Monday of each

The winning door
Mrs. Sara Solomon and Mrs. Lyn Schechtel, faculty members,
admire the award-winning door of the kindergarten of the Hebrew
Academy. Each class decorated its doors depicting a particular
emotion. Winners were treated to a special snack furnished by the
Student Council.
Knights of Pythias lodge
welcomes new members
Peachtree Lodge #100 Knights
of Pythias, which has relocated to
Atlanta, is seeking new members.
The Knights of Pythias meets
the first and third Thursday of
each month at the North DeKalb
Masonic Temple, located off
Apple Valley R.oad.
The lodge has assisted Cystic
Fibrosis and Muscular Dystrophy
foundations and through our
efforts, we helped raise thousands
of dollars for Jerry and his Kids.
The Knights of Pythias is a
worldwide fraternal organization
whose motto is “Friendship, Char
ity and Benevolence.”

Temple Sinai prepares
March 23 Purim Carnival
From 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sun
day, March 23, Temple Sinai will
host its Purim carnival, featuring a
costume contest, games, face
painting, spin art, sand art, bal
loons and special games for pre
schoolers. Lunch will be served.
Everyone is invited.

will hold joint meeting

Jewish War Veterans, and its
Ladies Auxiliary will hold their
regular joint meeting at 8 p.m.

Future of the Veterans Hospital.”

kicks up heels March 31

The joyous festival of Passover will soon be here, with the first
seder occurring on Wednesday evening, April 23. Soon the prepara
tion will begin in Jewish homes, with the purchase of matzo an
other special foods, as well as new clothing for this traditional and
beautiful holiday.
Passover and the Exodus from Egypt have come to represent t e
universal hopes for freedom, the end of oppression, and the expres
sion of a deep concern for the dignity of man. Hand in hand wit
this spirit has been the responsibility each Jew feels for those w
lack the means to celebrate the Passover properly.
The Atlanta Moas Chitim Committee asks for community he p
to assure that those in need in our Atlanta Jewish community can
also observe a happy holiday. _
