The Bat Mitzva of Andrea
Lynn Tieman of Atlanta will
take place at 10 a.m. Sunday,
May 25, at Congregation Shea-
rith Israel.
Andrea is the daughter of
Jeanette and Nat Tieman. She
is the granddaughter of Mrs.
Rose Tieman of Cakehurst,
N.J., and the late Benjamin
Tieman, and the late Mr. and
Mrs. Sidney Glass of Gulfport,
Miss.
The Bar Mitzva of Jerry Mark
Sugarman of Atlanta will take
place at 10:30 a.m., Saturday,
Mar. 24, at Temple Sinai. A
congregational kiddush will
follow.
Jeffrey is the son of Beth and
Edward Sugarman. He is the
grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Sid
ney Greenblatt of Jupiter, and
Dr. and Mrs. Marvin Sugar-
man of Atlanta. He is the great-
grandson of Mrs. Sam Sugar-

Keith is the son of Lewis and

Michael Scher of Atlanta will
take place at 8:30 a.m. Satur
day, May 24, at Congregation
B’nai Torah. A congregational
kiddush will follow.
Peter is the son of Fran and
Jerry Scher. He is the grandson
of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Hart,
and Mr. and Mrs. David Scher,
all of Atlanta.
Dr. Joseph Citron, an Atlanta
ophthalmologist, will present two
papers at the First International
Conference being held this month
at the Moscow Research Institute
for Eye Microsurgery in Moscow.
Citron will discuss his technique
for cataract surgery and will pres
ent a paper on his methods to sur
gically correct nearsightedness.
The international meeting was
established as a forum for the
shared knowledge of innovations
in eye surgery.

and Bonnie Wolf. He is the

Raton, Fla., and the late Meyer
Wolf.
Andrew will share his Bar
Mitzva with Avi Goldshtein of
the Soviet Union.
Gilbert Bachman and Harriet
Zimmmerman. both of Atlanta were
elected members of United Israel
Appeal’s board of directors at its
recent 6()th anniversary annual
meeting in New York. The affairs
of U1A are managed by the board
of directors, whose next meeting
will be June 23 in Jerusalem.
The Bat Mitzva of Saralyn
Horowitz ol Livingston, N.J., will
take place Saturday, May 17, at
Temple B’nai Abraham, l.i\ ingston.
Saralyn is the daughter ol Rina
and Jack Wolfe, and David Horo
witz of Seattle. She is the grand
daughter of Eleanor Levin, Adele
Wolfe.and Merton Levin, all of
Atlanta, and Alice Davis of Seat
tle. She is the great-granddaugher
of Ada Miller of Atlanta.
Saralyn is sharing her Bat Mitzva
with Alla (Rachel) Zeliger of Russia.

Dr. Manuel I. Weisman, a den
tal specialist who is also clinical
professor of endodontics at the
Medical College of Georgia in
Augusta, has been elected to the
board of directors of the American
Association of Endodontists.
Wiesman was elected during the
43rd annual session of the associa
tion, held in Boston. He has held
high-ranking posts in the associa
tion since 1974 and has served as
chairman of its membership com
mittee.
Dr. Weisman has had more than
80 scientific articles published. He
has been in private practice since
1951 and is also consultant to the
U.S. Veterans' Hospital in Augusta
and the U.S. Army Dental Corps
at Ft. Gordon.

Andy is the son of Nancy and
Morton Dimenstien. He is the

Eisenberg of Jacksonville, Fla.,
and the late David Dimenstien
and Sara Eisenberg.

Sachar. has been named the recip
ient of the American Jewish His
torical Society’s Emma Lazarus
Statue ot Liberty Award. The award
recognizes major contributions to
the understanding ot the immigrant's
role in American life.
Sachar, who served as president
ol Brandeis for 20 years, it now
chancellor emeritus.
Gwen Kaminsky of Atlanta has
been selected to receive one ot 10
Foundation Fellowships awarded
to incoming freshmen at the Uni
versity of Georgia. The scholarship
covers the full cost of a four-year
education.
Gwen is an honor roll student at
Riverwood High School and will
also graduate from Ahavath Achim s
religious school. She spent last
summer in Yehud, Israel, as a
member of Atlanta Jewish Com
munity Center’s student exchange
program.
She is the daughter of Harriet
and Lawrence Kaminsky.
The Bat Mitzva of Michele
Waddell of Fayetteville will
take place at 8 p.m. Friday,
May 16, at Congregation B’nai
Israel. A congregational kiddush
will follow.

the granddaughter of the late
Agnesand Sidney Waddell, and
Gwen Becraft of Beverly Hill,
Fla., and Holman Becraft of
