Jewish student group
gets charter at Oglethorpe
The Jewish Students Associa
tion of Oglethorpe was recently
granted its charter from the Ogle
thorpe University Student Govern
ment.
The JSA elected the following
officers for the 1986-87 academic
year. Kate Krohn, president; Todd
Shapiro, vice president; Monica
Eidelman, treasurer; and Rise
Nachman, secretary. The JSA also
held a campus seder on the second
night of Passover.

Vida Goldgar to speak
at City of Hope luncheon
Atlanta Chapter City of Hope
will hold its closing luncheon at
noon Sunday, June 1, at the Ter
race Garden Inn on Lenox Road.
Speaker will be Vida Goldgar, edi
tor and publisher of The Southern
Israelite.

Hebrew Academy sets
membership telethon
The Hebrew Academy will hold
its annual “Friends of the Hebrew
Academy” membership telethon
from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday,
June 1. Volunteers will phone
members of the community asking
for their support in Jewish
education by becoming “A Friend.”
Michael Plasker, telethon
chairman, stated: “1 know the
community is appreciative of the
outstanding service the Hebrew
Academy provides to all, regard
less of ideology. This is an oppor
tunity for the community to re
spond and show its support.”
V.A. Service Awards
given to JWV Post 112
The annual Voluntary Service
Awards Program of the Veterans
Administration Medical Center was
held recently. Several members of
Atlanta Post 112 JWV and its aux
iliary received awards.
Martin Spilky was given a certi
ficate for 100 hours of service and
William Bromberg for 500 hours.
Recognized for their years of ser
vice were: Frances Horwitz, 14
years, 2,660 hours; Sylvia Millender,
19 years, 4,309 hours; Tillie Sha
piro, 12 years, 2,708 hours; and
Rose Rappaport, 11 years, 1,185
hours. Bess Taffle, recognized for
12 years of service, 24,266 hours,
received the Administrators Award.
Beth Jacob to hold
Lag B’Omer celebration
Congregation Beth Jacob will
hold a Lag B’Omer Gala at 8:30
p.m. Monday, May 26, at the syn
agogue. Featured will be balalaika
music by the Great American Gypsy
Band, and a medley of Israeli, Eng
lish and Yiddish songs by Cantor
Isaac Goodfriend. A smorgasbord
will be served for $20 a person.

Ketura Hadassah to hold
installation on May 31
Ketura Hadassah will hold its
installation of officers at 8:30 p.m.
Saturday, May 31, at the Hyatt
Ravinia Hotel. Wine, cheese and
fruit will be served, as well as coffee
and dessert.
Entertainment will have a cabaret
setting, and Ketura’s Raffle for
Research will be drawn, the top
prize being three nights at the
Princess Casino Hotel in Freeport.

is slated by Solel Unit
The newly-named Solel Unit of
B’nai B'rithand B’nai B’rith Women
(in formation) will host a member
ship breakfast from 10:30 a.m.-l
p.m. Sunday, May 25, at the Rad-
isson Inn in Dunwoody. Cost is $5 a
person.
Formerly known as the Peach
tree Unit, the group invites cou
ples, 40 and older, to join as char
ter members for social, cultural
and service activities. “Solel" means
“new paths” in Hebrew.
