4th AJF forum to explore
aspects of Jewish creativity
“The Diaspora and the Contin
uance of Jew ish Creativity” w ill be
the topic of discussion at Congre
gation Shearith Israel at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, June 5. The program,
the fourth in the five-part public
symposium, “Jewish Renewal in
the Post-Modern World,” which is
co-sponsored by the National
Foundation for Jewish Culture and
the Atlanta Jewish Federation, will
also include a celebration of Yom
Yerushalaim, sponsored by the
Atlanta Zionist District of the
Zionist Organization of America
(ZOA).
Yom Yerushalaim, an official
holiday in Israel, marks the reuni
fication of Jerusalem 19 years ago.
The Atlanta celebration will fea
ture a concert of Jewish music by
the Atlanta Shirim Chorale. The
performance, which will mark the
debut of the Shirim Chorale,
Atlanta’s first professional Jewish
choral group, will be a musical
tribute to Jerusalem.
The concert is an appropriate
lead-in to the discussion which w ill
follow, concerning the continuance
of Jewish creativity in the Dias
pora after the establishment of the
State of Israel. Dr. Gerson Cohen,
chancellor of the Jewish Theologi
cal Seminary, is the featured
speaker. Dr. David Blumenthal,
chairman of the Department of
Religion and professor of Judaic
studies at Emory University, will
respond to his remarks. Elliott
Goldstein will serve as chairman
for the evening.
The symposium is part of a
