“Impact on Tomorrow,” the
Hebrew Academy Capital Funds
campaign for the construction of
the new facility, was formally
launched at a continental breakfast
on Sunday morning, June 8.
Attending were Dr. Jerome Blu-
menthal, president of board of
trustees; David Minkin, campaign
chairman; Dr. Ephraim Frankel,
headmaster; board members and
key campaign workers.
Marty Kogon chaired the training
session. Speakers included Jerry
Siegel, Steve Merlin and Dr. Fran
kel.
David Minkin stated that the
goal of the campaign for the new
facility is $6.5 million. “We know
that our community, always mind
ful of quality education, will gen
erously support this campaign.”
The campaign is to be completed
during the summer months.
The architectural firm, FABRAP,
has been commissioned to design
plans for the new building. The
ultra-modern and energy efficient
facility will be located on a 20-acre
site bordering Northland Drive and
High Point Road just inside the
perimeter.
Blended into the natural setting
of the land, the new Hebrew Acad
emy building is planned to be Aes
thetically attractive as well as
functionally efficient, with an initial
capacity for 500 students, expand
able for 700 students. In addition
to 30 classrooms, the complex will
include a sanctuary, computer/
math center, a center for the study
of allied sciences, an acoustically
soundproof music center, art center,
gymnasium, cafeteria, faculty
lounge, conference room, and clinic.
The Hebrew Academy leadership
views the new facility as a means to
serve a broad spectrum of the
entire community including various
age groups. The educational com
plex will house the Atlanta Bureau
of Jewish Education, its public
library, the teachers’ resource
center, and the High School for
Jewish Studies. Additionally, the
Jewish Family Services will operate
an outreach program from the new
facility.

Andi Arnovitz previews Capital Funds Campaign brochure.
“We envision this new building
as a resource for the entire com
munity,” said Dr. Jerome Blumen-
thal. “Space for meetings, lectures
and exhibits has been incorporated
into the plans so that the facility
can be used beyond regular school
hours to help meet the expanding
needs of local institutions. We
expect the building to be a constant
beehive of activity.”
The Hebrew Academy, estab
lished in 1953, has become the
largest Jewish day school between
Miami and Washington, D.C. Not
only is it the largest in the area, but
also one of the finest in the country.
In 1971, the Hebrew Academy be
came the first day school in the
U.S. to be accredited by the presti
gious Southern Association of Col
leges and Schools. It has also been
recognized by the Council of Amer
ican Private Education for its out
standing program. “The Hebrew
Academy has always taken partic
ular pride in its commitment to
serve all religious elements of the
community. As such, it has served
as a model of cohesiveness and
communality,” says Dr. Blumen-
thal.
