Atlantans named in Bible contest
Six students from Atlanta Jewish
religious schools finished among
the top 20 competitors at the Na
tional Bible contest held May 18 in
New York.
Under theauspicesof the Atlanta
Bureau of Jewish Education, the
six were selected from some 50
students from congregations Aha-
vath Achim, Etz Chaim, Shearith
Israel and Temple Sinai, who had
spent the 1985-86 school year pre
paring for the contest with local
teachers and rabbis. Written and
oral Bible contests held last April
determined which students would
make the trip to New York.
In the national competition,
Jennifer Fox finished sixth and
Aaron Goldberg came in 10th. Both
are students at Congregation
Ahavath Achim.
Jana Glass, Stephen Goldstein
and Jill Silberstein, all of Ahavath
Achim, and Jack Ellerin, of Con
gregation Etz Chaim, scored in the
top 20.
Jonas Werzberger, Bible contest
instructor at Ahavath Achim, and
Bible students Jana Glass, Jennifer Fox, Stephen Goldstein and
Aaron Greenberg (front row, left to right) scored impressively at the
National Bible Contest held recently in New York. Dr. Leon H. Spotts
and Jonas Werzberger (back row, left to right) helped shape the Atlanta
contingent, which also included Jack Ellerin and Jill Silberstein.
Nelson Ellerin accompanied the
Atlanta team to New York.
“The Atlanta Jewish community
should be extremely proud of the
accomplishments of these Bible
scholars,” said Dr. Leon H. Spotts,
executive director of the Atlanta
Bureau of Jewish Education.
