Community leader Gilbert Bach

were announced by Eliezer Rafaeli,

More than 85 percent of Israel’s
working population. Jews. Arabs,
Circassians and Druse, belong to
the Histadrut, the country’s Gen
eral Federation of Labor.
Rafaeli said he was “delighted
these two prominent Atlanta per
sonalities have taken the lead in
promoting a wide knowledge of
the Histadrut throughout the
southeast.”
Bachman, newly elected treas
urer of the Atlanta Jewish Federa
tion, is chairman and chief execu
tive officer of Dittler Brothers Inc.,
president of Production Color and
Express Computer Forms, and is
on the board of directors of Infor

Herbert Mabry
Alec Aylat, Southeast regional
director, announced that the 11-
state regional advisory board is in
formation. To date, members in
clude: E.L. Abercrombie, J. Bill
Becker, Asher Benator, Nick Bo-
nanno, Victor Bussie, Tom Cordy,
Rabbi Randall Falk, Sidney Feld
man, Max Gettinger, Dr. Marvin
Goldstein, Harry Hubbard, Harris
Jacobs, Joe Jacobs, Randall Kiser.
Nathan Lipson, James E. Neeley,
James Sala, Carl Scarbrough,

Sugarman and Erwin Zaban.
Bachman said support of the
Histadrut’s social service agencies
in Israel would be sought.
“It is an organization which runs
Israel’s major health services with
16 hospitals and more than 1,200
clinics. It runs 90 vocational
schools, retirement and convales
cent homes, Israel’s major sports
organization, cultural center,
theaters, newspapers and more.”
Bachman added, “Twenty-five
percent of Israel’s industry is owned
by the Histadrut. The Histadrut
thus has much in common with
some of our industry here in the
southeast.
“We have a major story to tell,”
he said, “and I consider it a privi
lege to work with Herb Mabry in
getting that story across.”
Mabry welcomed the opportun
ity to develop a closer relationship
between Israel and the southeast.
“American labor,” he said, “has
been in the forefront of support for
Israel for more than 60 years, long
before the state was even estab
lished.
“This support,” Mabry added,
“expresses itself in diverse ways
both here in the United States and
in many other countries. Organ
ized labor also continues to give
active assistance to the Histadrut’s
educational and social welfare insti
tutions.”
