te Synagogue Forest at Safad during their recent trip to Israel.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans — Post 112, a
member organization of Better Infant Births/March of Dimes,
held a Stork Shower and educational program. Rose Steine (left)
and Frances Horwitz, chairpersons of the Child Welfare Commit
tee, planned the event. Baby clothes and furniture items donated at
the shower will be used as motivational incentives for women to get
prenatal care and attend special classes. The Jewish War Veterans
also donated funds for the project.
Michelle Rosen of Dunwoody
has been selected to compete in
the Georgia Miss T.E.E.N. Pag
eant to be held ir. August in
Gainesville,Ga. She was the
winner of a regional pageant
held in June.
Contestants between the ages
of 13 to IS are judged on civic
involvement, school activities,
scholastic achievements, poise,
personality and speech or talent.
Michelle, IS, will attend
Converse College in Spartan
burg, S.C., in September. A
counselor at AJ ECO MCE day
camp, she is a member of Con
gregation Beth Shalom. She is
the daughter of Dr. and Mrs.
Ted Rosen of Dunwoody.

Glenn Zweig, a rising senior at
Northside High School, was recent
ly named winner on the state level
of the American Legions’ annual
oratorical contest, winning $750
cash and a $1,000 scholarship.
Glenn, past president of his jun
ior class, was elected president of
the student body at Northside. He
recently received the Yale College
Book Award, was elected to the
National Honor Society and was
selected to attend Boys State this
summer.
Brad Zweig was recently elected
president of his sophomore class at
Northside High School. He was
selected as one of the top 10 debate
speakers following debate camp at
Emory University this summer.
Glenn and Brad are the sons of
Drs. Arnold and Carolyn Zweig of
Atlanta.

Aaron Lichtman of Atlanta was
recently awarded the 1986 Rensse
laer Medal by the Rensselaer Poly
technic Institute of Troy, N. Y. The
award is presented each year to
high school students in their junior
year for outstanding achievement
in mathematics and science.
Aaron, who attends Riverwood
High School, is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Stan Lichtman of Atlanta.

Dr. Leon Aronson of Savannah
has been elected vice president of
the Georgia Orthodontic Society.

Jason Levy of Toronto gradu
ated from York University with
honors, earning a bachelor of arts
degree in honors mathematics. He
is 14 years old.
Jason began his studies at the
Associated Hebrew Schools and
was accelerated to the high school
of the Community Hebrew Acad
emy. At age 10, he was accepted by
York University.
His graduate course work was
published in the Mathematical
Report of the Royal Society of
Canada.
Atlantan Edward R. Katz has
been appointed by Gov. Joe Frank
Harris to serve as a member of the
Georgia Commission on the Bicen
tennial of the United States Consti
tution.
Katz, who is retired, is the ser
vice officer of the Jewish War
Veterans, and national service offi
cer for the Military Order of the
Purple Heart. He is also senior vice
commander of Jewish War Vete
rans Post 112.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Blum of
Savannah celebrated their 50th an
niversary on June 28 at Congrega
tion B'nai B'rith Jacob. Following
the morning service, a reception
was held.
They were married in New York
on June 28, 1936. Mr. Blum was
employed for 12 years by Savan
nah Country Day School. He re
tired in 1975. Mrs. Blum retired
from Howden Coal and Oil Co. in
1975, after nine years with the
company.

Barbara Karen Milton of Ros
well, a sophomore in mechanical
engineering at the University of
Delaware, has been named to the
Dean’s List for the spring 1986
semester.

Allan Wexler of Savannah has
been elected vice president and
David Bradley of Savannah has
been elected treasurer of the First
District Society of the Georgia
Optometric Association.

Lewis A. Kooden of Savannah,
president of Alko Distributors, has
been re-elected to the board of
directors of the Georgia Beer Whole
salers Association.

Country singer Johnny Cash re
cently received the Jewish National
Fund’s Shalom Peace Award at a
testimonial dinner in Memphis,
Tenn.
Cash received the award for his
contributions to the music indus
try and his humanitarian efforts.
Lisa Bernstein has been se
lected to represent Riverwood
High School in the field of
Spanish at the annual Gover
nors Honors Program at Val
dosta State College.
Lisa is the recipient of the
Georgia Certificate of Merit, a
member of the National Honor
Society, the Spanish Honor So
ciety and the All Star and River
wood Drill teams. She is mem
bership vice president of United
Synagogue Youth.
A rising senior, she is the
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Arnold
Bernstein of Atlanta.
Robert Rosenbloum recently
completed hisjunioryearat River
wood High School, where he was
class president. He received the
Yale Book Award for academic
excellence.
Bobby, a 4.0 student, was also
chosen student council president
and was elected to the National
Honor Society. He was included in
Who’s Who in American High
Schools.
He is the son of Bette Selfridge
and Dr. Malcom Rosenbloum.
Adam Miller, son of Judy and
Jim Miller, recently attended Space
Camp in Huntsville, Ala.
Adam graduated and was a-
warded his wings on July 4.
While at camp, he learned the
history of the space program, expe
rienced the force of 3-G’s in the
Lunar Odyssey, worked on NASA
computers, built and launched
rockets, and participated in a simu
lated shuttle mission.
The Millers are members of Con
gregation Etz Chaim.

Maxine and Keith Schube of
Dunwoody announce the birth of a
daughter Rochelle Jordana, on July
5.
Grandparents are Judy and Paul
Finkel, and Brenda and Stanley
Schube, all of Atlanta. Great-
grandparents are Rose Sandler and
Bess Finkel of New York, and
Ruth and Alex Block of West
Palm Beach, Fla.
Rochelle will be given the Hebrew'
name Riva Ya’akova in memory of
her paternal great-grandmother,
Ruth Shube, and maternal cousin,
Jeffrey Sandler. The ceremony will
take place Saturday, Aug, 9, at
Ahavath Achim Synagogue, with
Rabbi Arnold Goodman officia
ting.

nounce the birth of a son, Freder
ick Michael, on July 4.
Grandparents are Rachel Weiss
of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and
the late Fizel Weiss, and Rubin
and Lola Lansky of Atlanta. Fred
erick was given the Hebrew' name
Ephraim Mechael in memory of
his maternal grandfather and his
paternal great-grandfather.

name Deena Elka in memory of
