Bob Wilensky, Hillel president, paints the door at Hillel House
in preparation for Atlanta Hillel’s office move from the Emory
Student Center. Many volunteers assisted this summer in repairing
and repainting the house.
Bernie Marcus of Home Depot donated four air conditioners
to make the summer work bearable, and Stan and Sarah Sloan
donated a new door and drapes. Board members joined staff in
repainting window trim and hardwood, while Beni Nouriel, a
professional painter, completed repairs to walls and ceilings and
painted the interior walls.

Family Fun Day
to be held at Zaban
The Atlanta Jewish Community
Center will hold its Family Fun
Day at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7,
at Zaban Park. Activities for all
ages include a carnival with games,
tournaments with prizes, sports
events, a Dunking machine, a
Moonwalk, face painting, live music
by Inspected by 12, and food and
drink, and more.

Atlanta Council BBYO will hold
its annual Leadership Training In
stitute Sept. 19-21 at Camp Barney
Medintz in Cleveland, Ga. Coor

Noah Duke, the 80-participant as
sembly is for chapter members-at-
large to take part, identify and
develop and leadership skills.
The weekend agenda is based on
a small-group concept of working
together to enable participants to
understand and become more ef
fective within their chapters.

to hear about fire safety
The AJCC Senior Adult Depart
ment will feature a program on
“Home Fire Safety,” presented by
the Atlanta Fire Department at
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10.
“Power of the Sword,” an histori -
cal novel on South Africa by Wil
bur Smith, will be reviewed at
10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, by a
branch Fulton County librarian.

to sponsor clothing sale
Congregation Beth Jacob Men’s
Club will sponsor a clothing outlet
sale from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday,
Sept. 7, at the synagogue. The
Clearing House- -a manufacturers’
outlet—will present its entire stock
of first quality merchandise for
sale. Suits, slacks, sport coats,
blazers, dress shirts and hats will
be available at wholesale manufac
turers’ prices.

B’nai Torah to hear
Jewish publication editor
Congregation B’nai Torah will
present Diane Levenberg, associate
editor of the Jewish Publication
Society,at 8p.m. Wednesday, Sept.
10, at the synagogue. She will
address the topic, “Are Jewish
Writers really Jewish Writers?” and
will give a poetry reading from her
book, “Out of the Desert.” A re
ception will follow.
Ms. Levenberg has worked with
Henry Roth, “Call It Sleep”; Harold
Brodkey, “Women and Angels”:
Ruth Seid, “Wasteland”; and Curt
Leviant, “The Yemenite Girl.” In
recent years she has reviewed almost
50 American Jewish books and has
interviewed authors.
