“AH Aboard”
When 1 was young I remember going to visit my aunts
in Toronto,Canada, every summer and how I especially
looked forward to the wonderful adventure of a train ride
through the rolling hills of Pennsylvania. The steam
engine train with its hisses and jolts has been forever
engraved as part of my childhood.
Now, unfortunately, there are only planes that go
from place to place. But, oh, how I long to relive just once
smells and sensations of a passenger train.
Trains do hold a fascination for most people. And the
Center is building on this for its GALA IV. Our annual
fundraiser will be held this year on Nov. 15 at the Depot
in Underground Atlanta, which has been remarkably
remodeled to become one of the most exciting places in
town to give a party. GALA has always been well known
for its spectacular reviews. Remember “Hurray for Hol
lywood” and “Broadway Comes To Peachtree” from our
recent GALAs.
This year’s review is being called “All Aboard.” It was
developed by Lisa Brill and Bobbi Perlstein. It features
songs about trains (obviously) and cities in the United
States famous for their association with trains, such as
Chicago and Chattanooga. These showstoppers are
blended together with exciting dance routines, Once the
show was conceived, we looked around for just the right

person to serve as a writer and director and Scott Rous
seau, choreographer and assistant director of “Little
Shop of Horrors,” was asked to take a look at what we
had. He did—and he loved it. So Scott is our director.
Scott is an established writer, singer, choreographer and
director. He immediately called for auditions from our
members and over 30 talented, young, beautiful men and
women turned out. Rehearsals are now under way and
Scott has told us we have a bouncy, clever, funny script
from which to work.
But what’s a train ride without a train? So—we have a
train! The New Georgia Railroad has revamped a dozen
vintage cars, pulled by old engine 750, one of the last
steam-driven locomotives that streaked across this land
from 1830 until the 1950s. Over 400 patrons will have a
one-hour train ride around Atlanta with a light dinner
from “Affairs to Remember,” entertained by jazz com
bos, banjo players, jugglers, clowns, magicians, black
jack dealers and a honky-tonk piano.
This pre-GALA train ride ends at 9 p.m. at the Depot
and our patrons will join the crowd of revelers who will
have already arrived to dance to the music of the Moder-
naire’s and to see the wonderful “All Aboard” review.

or Kathleen at 875-7881.
