Jewish Home resident Moses Berman displays his original
yarn weaving titled ‘‘Shades of Pink,” for which he received a
distinguished merit award for very special arts. He was given
the award at the second annual exhibition featuring Georgia
artists with disabilities.
A native of Russia, Berman is 94. He began weaving at the
Home about four years ago, and spends many hours a day on
his creations.
Bessie Taffel
Bessie Taffel and Helen Spie
gel were among 10 women chosen
to be honored Nov. 13 as DeKalb
Women Who Have Made a Dif
ference in 1986. The event was
jointly sponsored by the DeKalb
YWCAand the DeKalb Network
for Women.
Mrs. Taffel, a member of the
Women’s Auxiliary of the Jewish
War Veterans, has given over
25,000 hours in volunteer ser
vice at the Veterans Hospital in
Atlanta.
She recently received letters of
congratulations from President
Reagan and U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn.
Births
Lori and Wayne Miller an
nounce the birth of a son, Bruce
David, on Sept. 29.
Grandparents are Flora and
Marvin Fine, and Harriet and
Alvin Miller, all of Atlanta,
Great-grandparents are Betty and
Max Lesnoy of New York, Sara
and Sam Fine of Fort Lauder
dale, and Ada Miller of Atlanta.
Bruce was given the Hebrew
name David Pinchas in memory
of his great-grandfather Dave
Miller and his cousin Caryn
Phyllis Lesnoy.
The bris was performed by
Dr. Mark Safra, with Rabbi
Arnold Goodman officiating.

of Los Angeles announce the
birth of a son. Jonathan William,
on Oct. 5.
Grandparents are Julius Per-
linski and the late Jeannette Per-
linski, and Bessie Friedman and
the late Wolfie Friedman, all of
Atlanta.

Sherry and Kenneth Levy of
Dunwoody announce the birth of
a daughter, Sara Kate, on Oct. 27.
Grandparents are Elayne and
Morton Levy, and Ethel and
Lawrence Weinstein, all of Cleve
land, Ohio.
Sara Kate was given the Hebrew
name Sara Kayla, in memory of
her paternal great-grandmother,
Sara Levy, and her maternal
great-grandmother, Kate Kass.
Mrs. Ben (Dotsie) Zimmerman
was recently honored at the an
nual dinner dance of Congrega
tion Shearith Israel as this year’s
recipient of the Joe Cohen Dis
tinguished Service Award.
The daughter of one of the
synagogue’s founding families,
she is a past president and life
member of Shearith Israel Sis
terhood. She was the first woman
elected to the synagogue’s board
of trustees, on which she still
serves. In addition, Mrs. Zim
merman was the first woman
honored in Atlanta by Israel
Bonds.
Mrs. Zimmerman has two chil
dren, Vivian Horowitz Slotin and
Gerald Horowitz.
