Temple Sinai sets goal
for Israel Bonds sales
The Temple Sinai Israel Bonds
Campaign has set a goal of reach
ing over 200 congregants and sel
ling $80,000 in Bonds this year.
The congregation will hold
Friday night services for Israel
Bonds on Nov. 23. Howard Stone,
noted writer and consultant to
major Jewish organizations, will
be the speaker. Dr. David Taylor
is president of Temple Sinai.
Peter Savitz is chairman of the
campaign.
A native of South Carolina,
Savitz graduated from Emory
University with a B.A. degree in
economics and earned an MBA
degree in finance from Wharton.
He has served as the Camp Cole
man chairman for Temple Sinai.
He is part owner of Select Ser
vice and Supply Company. He
and his wife Margo have three
children.

Solel is having a ‘bris’
Solel. B’nai B’rith/B’nai
B’rith Women’s newest unit,
for couples 40 and over, is
having a “bris” at 7:30 p m.
Saturday, Nov. 22, at the
Standard Club.
One of the many goals of
Solel is to bring Jewish men
and women together to share
experiences, knowledge and
information in a setting of
common service while provid
ing interest, camaraderie and
fun in the Jewish and general
community. The name Solel
was chosen by its members
because, in Hebrew, it means
“new direction” or “new path.”
Solel will provide service
and support for the National
Youth Service Appeal, pro
grams and projects of B nai
B’rith such as BBYO. Hillel,
Israel and Soviet Jewish Pol
itical Action.
Since its first meeting last
April, Solel has held a wine
and cheese party, a Flag Day
barbecue and a Yiddish Night.
The group also heard Dr.
William Korey, B’nai B’rith
representative to the U.N.,
speak on Soviet Jewry, as well
as speakers from the Anti-
Defamation League.
Solel participated in the
recent Rally for Soviet Jewry
and has collected food for the
needy.
The unit received its official
charter in July at the District
Five Convention in Orlando,
Fla. Ceil and David Canter
and are co-presidents.
Cost for the evening, an all-
you-can^eat dinner buffet and
dance, is $36 a couple. Cantor
Sid Gottler will perform the
“bris” and entertain the group
by singing Jewish songs. Sol
Cutler and his band will pro
vide the music.

Anti-apartheid concert Nov. 19
Professor Eliezer Rafaeli, first
president and chancellor of Haifa
University, and now the Histad-
rut’s representative to North
America, will be the speaker at
the “Freedom From Apartheid”
Concert set for 8 p.m. Wednes
day, Nov. 19, at The Temple.
Rafaeli. who was the Jewish
Agency’s director-general of
“Project Renewal” from 1978-
80, is reputed to be an inspiring
speaker. A former chairman of
the Committee of Heads of all
Israeli Universities, he has been
visiting professor at the Univer
sity of Massachusetts, Amherst,
and chairman of Israel’s Hecht
Fund for Archeology and Art.
