Dr. Nathan Shapiro of I ucker
was recently awarded diplomate
status by the American Board of
Periodontology at its meeting in
Dallas. The organization is the
national board for periodontal
dentistry.
Shapiro received his DDS
degree from Columbia Univer
sity School of Dental and Oral
Surgery in 1974. He had spe
cialty training in periodontics at
the University of Pennsylvania
and received his certificate in
1977.
He is a member of the Ameri
can Academy ol Periodontology
and the Georgia Society of Peri
odontists.

University of North Carolina in

try selected as National Football
Foundation and Hall of Fame
scholar athletes for 1986.

players for $3,000 fellowships.
They will be honored at the
foundation's 29th annual Hall of
Fame awards dinner I uesday,
Dec. 9, at the Waldorf Astoria in
New York.
Barton attended the Hebrew
Academy of Atlanta and is a
graduate of Dunwoody High
School.

Dr. Dennis B. Cogan of Atlanta
recently visited Brazil as part of
an exchange program between
Cieorgia State University, the
U niversity System of Georgia and
the Federal University of Per
nambuco.
The program gives college-level
educators a chance to gain a
greater understanding of Latin
American countries.
Cogan and eight other Geor
gia State University faculty
members stayed in the homes of
Brazilians, lecturing and study
ing at the university and meeting
with foreign colleagues.
Cogan. chairman of the GSU
Department of Mental Health
and Human Resources, worked
with psychiatrists and psycholo
gists in the university and in
direct-service clinics.
