Every living thing at one time or the other due to social motives. Some of these social groups are economic, religious, labor, political and others. Since the world is so massive, each ethnic group is influenced by economic, physical, and cultural conditions in the way they communicate, behave and operate. Christmas is one of these social organizations and is religiously based. Christmas in Nigeria, as the title indicates can best be discussed through a comparative study of Christmas activities in Nigeria and that of the United States of America or points of contrast be raised. Christmas by itself originated from periods of Christ’s birth, a period of Gods’ token of love of mankind when he sent his son as a ransome for man’s sins when Christ came down in human form through a virgin’s birth. In Nigeria, the climate as well as weather conditions ar so con- dusive to free an outdoor ac tivities that, different groups of people choose to celebrate Christmas outdoors as well as in doors. One of the spectacular activities in Nigeria during Christ mas is the indoor native dances v*- that people of different ages stay outdoors in the village or town yards to play their talking drums (Ibie) and tom-toms (Obodom) and people dance according to Located 205 miles from Denver via 1-70, and complete with scheduled airlines and bus ser vices, Aspen Mountain majestically stands 11,212 feet tall. Christmas season in Nigeria is always a period or season of warm com fortable weather opposed to the Amerrican weather condition during this time of the year when at times some Americans talk of “White Christmas” when snow clads the surface and make out door activities very impossible or uncomfortable. It is interesting to mention that in Nigeria there’s no “Santa Claus” rather parents are those santa clauses to their families as a country with an extended family system-one has to save a lot of money at this particular time in order to meet up the demand that is very satisfactorily. Older brothers, sisters, lovers as well as friends also play the role very successfully. Our children and Nevada, the Lake Tahoe resort area is nestled in an ideal location-completely surrounded by eight mountains. One of the most outstanding resorts of the eight is call Heavenly Valley. Noted as America’s largest ski area, Heavenly Valley straddles the California and Nevada state bor ders and encompasses eight peaks towering over 10,000 feet. This resort as others also offers ski lessons and other forms of winter sports and snow time fun. Their housing accomodations are also complete and range from the budgeted to the opulent. In Nigeria the Christmas trees in the rural areas are basically the traditional palm fronts with assorted decorations display both outdoors and in doors. At this time the beautiful songs of birds and then of Christ mas make life very enjoyable in the villages. Merry Christmas in Different Languages By Sheron L. Covington Merry Christmas are two words that symbolize the world-wide ex pressions of love and joy by bringing together people of all lands in the celebration of the bir th of Jesus Christ. It is during this yultide season that once again people of all lands raise their voices as one to wish the world eternal peace. Although the languages overheard will not be the same, their meanings are synonymous. In Turkey, Noeliniz Kutlu Olsun is spoken; the French ex press themselves by saying Joyuex Noel. In Italy you’ll hear Buon Natale and in Japan Baeyneeg is the word. The Spanish say Felice Navivdad, and the Germans loudly proclaim Frohliches Weinhndcten. Although Christmas is spoken differently around the world, the thought of peace on earth and good will toward men is univer sal. T’was the night before Christ mas, and all through the place, not one thing was stirring that you could trace. The notebooks were laid on each desk and chair, in hopes that someone would remove them from there. The students were nestled all snug in their beds, while night mares of dorm lunches danced in their heads. One roommate in her curlers and another in her ’fro had just settled down to watch the late- late show. (Next day) While back in Manley Center, there came a big clatter. I stood on my chair to see what was the matter. The trays were scattered on table and floor, and students were walking in and out of the door. The card playing could be seen from a mile away. “Oh, hey somebody got lucky today.” But, lunches were being served the same old way. “Hey, ain’t that what we had yesterday?” Then, who to my surprise should appear, Donald Stewart, the college president is here. “Put out the cigarettes, no smoking in here. A dime for that scarf on,” he said with a cheer. He is a nice man, a right jolly old self. I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself. ‘Go to class,” he preaches. “Stay out of Scarlet O’Hara. An education is what you need to make it out there.” Listen to the man is what we should do. He knows what he is saying, he has been there too. So, listen to me students, if you really want to hear. Try harder in school. Make this your best year. New Year's Resolutions By Vivian Fannings It’s that time again, when everybody makes those funny, emotionally moving, inspirational, New Year’s Resolutions (only to break them a month later).
