MERRIWBTHERINFEBIQR COURT Met for Special Purposes, at Cham bert, 22d June 1861, ' Pursuant to an order issued by this court, appointing a committed two ( from each District in this County to ascertain the number of families in their several Districts, who, in the ab sence of their protectors and providers in their country’s Bervice, would actu ally require assistance td maintain an honorable support, and they, the said Committees, being unable to make a correct report, and having failed to make any as to the number of such persons— It is, therefore, ordered by the Court, that they Monday in July next, and every two weeks thereafter, until otherwise or dered, for the purpose of hearing ap plications and making provision for those in this county in the service of the Confederate States. It is farther ordered that ample compensation be awaViled to such persons as may make advancements to the families of those in service, until 4be. same are ucovqded , for by this Court. S The Constitution of the State of Georgia having been atntpded and re versed by the late Convention holden in.said State, and jiSua having provided ordinance .thereof that such Constitution so re vised and amended, Kiould be submit ted for “ ratification ” or “no ratifi cation ” to the qualified voters of said State, on the first Tuesday in July, and the Governor, Joseph E. Brown, of said State, having issued his Procla mation accordingly— It is, therefore, ordered, That an election be held in said County, on the first Tuesday in July, (ensuing) at each precinct in said County, in such manner as elections for members of the Legislature are held, and that at said election, each voter endorse on his ticket “ ratification ” or “no rati fication.” By order of R. The Sawyer Gun has thrown no shell up to SP. M. to-day. When it threw the last shell on the 18th, an unusual commotion was observed among the people on the Rip Raps, and a strange report was heardj leading our people to think the gun had bursted. Very Tiharp musketry firing was "heard at 6 A. M., on the Peninsula. Probably Magnifier's scouts beating up Butler’s scouts. Washington, June 21.—Wm.'Por ter Miles, of Louisiana, has been ap pointed Consul to Tripoli. A battle between McDowell’s Di vision and the Confederate Troops, at Virginia, is considered inevitable to morrow, It is npw evident that the main blow of the Ljnediites will be struck from Washington with 45,000 men. Surprise is expressed in some quarters that Gen. Scott has not pre vented the erection of batteries at va rious points on the right Bj,qk of the Potomac. A correspondent of the Tribune says it is probable all»j|he roads be tween the advance pcmWof the Con federate and the Yankee lines are covered with masked batteries. The Times' correspondent says the battery at Sewell’s Point is composed of five ColumbiSHs, six smaller pieces, thr§e rifled cannon, and 500 men, and that 15,000 troops are stationed at Norfolk. Richmond, June 21.—Passengers just- from Yorktown report nothing new. There was a slight skirmish on the 19th inst., west of the Cumber land, between a few troops but with trifling results. t F Louisville, Ky., June 22. —It is understood that Rosseau has been in vested with authority to raise two Kentucky Reglffrents, and it is said that blank commissions for Captains, now in the hands of Rosseau, are be .iiig filled up. The following appears in the morn ing papers: Notice. —AlLpersons desiring to make shipments of goods over Douraville and Nashville Ibad, on and after Monday. Prltchard. ‘ Louisville Mews. Louisville, June 24.—1 tis believed that tho government will not lhterferc ( and that a due course of law will be pursued in* the case of the Privateer Savannah. Mr. Crittenden will again offer his compromise to the next Congress, coupled with a threat, that if not im mediately passed* Kentucky will se cede. v•' Washington Mews. Washington, June 23. —General Beauregard is constantly preparing to advance. New York, June 22.— -It is repor ted that the Federal Navy will be doubled, and that Congress is to sus pend the writ of habeas corpus at an early day. Fortress Monroe, June 22.—Ru mors are current of heavy advances of Southern forces upon Yorktown. The Yankee Pickets near Little Bethel, have been driven in. Persons representing themselves as deserters from Sewell’s Point, made such contradictory statements and gave such vague information that Gen. Butler ordered them sent to jail. The Southern forces are erecting* masked batteries opposite the Rip- Raps. •-<; „ ' 0 .
