Imprudent Demonstrations.
Notwithstanding the unanimity with
which the representatives of the peopio
havo decreed the independence of Georgia,
and her severance flora all connection with
®he Federal Government, there seems to he
spirit ol dissatisfaction, or disaffection,
rather, among some lew misguided sub-
missionisls. For example, we hear that
certain persons in Pick mis county, held a
meeting, alter hearing of the passage
the ordinance of seceeiion, and declared
their continued allegia tee to the Federal
Government; that s >me miscreants, in
Walker county, under rover of darkness,
shot through, and olhei wise injured a Slate
flag that had been raised in honor of Geor
gia's i recdom ; and lastly, that the notori
ous liar rison Ililcy who now disgraces the
State by a seat in the Senate from Lump
kin county, has threatened to take posses,
sion of the Mint and hold it for “Old
Buck" and his successors.

The convention met at 10 o’clock A.

On motion of Mr. Bartow of Chat->

NVhcn the doors again were opened,
we of the press took our position (stand

the Capitol and filled the Galleries to

The sanio lies over, under the rules,

The convention then adjourned un

AU these things may be unworthy pub
lic notice but they indicate a spirit that
ought not to he found amongst us.—
We ought to sustain Georgia's cause, now,
ome what will, regardless of our own
personal wishes or feelings in the matter.—
If the voice of public sentiment, in repro
bation of auch unseemly exhibitions, and
threats is not potent enough to quench
these disturbing fires, the strong arm of
State authority should he invoked lor the
purpose, if there is the slighcst danger of
detriment to the State from their existence.
For this reason we hope Ilia Convention
will adopt, at an early day, an ordinance
declaring what constitutes treason apains 1
the State. That, we apprihend, will suf
fice to cool these ultra L'nion gentry.

U'e bad the pleasure of a brief conver
sation with Rev. W. R. Bell, of Banks, as
be passed hero for home. Mr. Bell was a
c.o-operationist, but signed the ordinance
of secession, and thinks our people should
sustain the action of the State, as one man.
Tiiis indicates the character of the true
man and patriot, and it is to be hoped that
however much tbo people of Georgia may
have differed upon the subject of secession
now that the sovereign peopio havo spok
en, it is the duly of all her sons to defend
iter honor with their lives and fortunes, it
necessary. Lei him who would do other
wise he anathema maranatha.
Mr. Bell speaks in high terms of our
townsman, T. R. K. Cobb, Esq. Ha aays
ho ran dispatch more business in a given
i^po than any man he ever met. Sinca
the passage ofthe secession ordinance his
ljburs It.vc been exceedingly arduous ; and
that all the ordinances introduced by him
have passed with but little opposition.—
He once beard a distinguished member of
tbc bar of ibis circuit express the belief
that Mr. Cobb had no nerves, that physic
ally be was but a lump of fat, and that h#
might work all day and all night for a
month, with no other effect but a small re
duction of flesh. However this msy be,
wc know that during the late canvass it
would have taken Sixteen steam presses,
more or less, to have priatrd all the matter
be prepared and desired to circulate, be
sides making one snd two stump speeches
every _day. And such speeches! Any
ono of tin in would compare favorably with
tbc sublimes! flights of Patrick llenry in
patriotic ardor and profound argument.
Who wonders that Clark rolled up such a
majority 1
