Shocking Death of a Lunatic.—Somo
time hist summer a man nnined Winans
who sang »t some of our concert sa
loon*, becoming unsettled in his mind,
wusudmitted into tlie lunatic depart
ment of the Almshouse. He appeared
to be in constant dread that some one
was in pursuit of him to kill him, and
made several attempts to escape. In
September last ho was missed, and noth
ing being beard of him, it was supposed
lie hud effected his escape. A few days
ago another insane patient got down
into the cellar beneath tho building,
and secreted himself for some time in
ono of the dark corners. A search was
commenced for the fugitive, aud in do
ng so, a man’s knee was discovered
protruding from one of the chimney
lines, and a further examination being
made a human figure was discovered,
r.-hioh was found to ho that of poor
Vinans, who had been missing since
September* The flesh was nearly all
wasted from the body, and its appear-
{■nee demoted that ho had died from
