If thoro Is any party in Georgia that will not ontor into this combina tion, on tho basis proposod, the people ought to know it at once and thoir reasons. It is now loss than threo weeks to tho oloction. Tho strong est Union men are feeling dis couraged. Wo find mnny of tho best citizens of all parties urgingsomo policy that will bring tho people togother.— Longer party strife is unpatriotic, and ruinous to tho best interests of tho country. Every man ought to bo willing to muko concessions for tho good of the whole. It Is no time now to talk of party success, or Indulge in par'y feeling.— Tho country is in danger, and needs all om best ellbrts. Wo bcliovo tho People are ready to respond to this movement Wo bcliovo a movoment of this kind in tho South will awaken the conservative patriotism of tho North, and defeat Lincoln. Thoro has perhaps never beon a time since the organization of our Govern ment when tlio real danger, threatened to our section, has been so apparont to every one, as nt present, flood men of all parties now feel their hearts sinking within them as they behold the dark clouds that lmvo recently risen incur Northern horizon. Men now nro in a bewildered state of dismay and dread apprehension atul in great doubt as to what is best to bo done. It is true that one may find a plenty of flippant politi cians who talk much and think little, who know exactly what ought to bo done in the present emergency, they never havo been in doubt, beenuso doubt implies tlio possession of more than one idea anil this they lmvo sel dom had. But the genuine patriots of tho land—men who think much and with sincere earnestness aro porploxed at tlio presont distracted stato of tbo element. If good men cannot yet fully agroo as to what ought now to be done, they can at least agroo upon a few negative propositions. In the first place Lincoln ought not to bo elected, if it ho possible to prevent it, unless it he the desire of tlio people “to precipi tate tho cotton planting States into a revolution.” Wo do not wish to be un derstood as predicting a revolution ns a necessary consequence of Lincoln’s elec tion, far from it, and yet tho country would he in imuiidont danger and there no tolling what irreconcilable ele ments of discord might , arise. In tlio second place all parties in tlio South ought to cease their mere partisan warfare, and, especially thoircrimbullions of each other and in a spirit or brotherly lovo and kindness, with moderation and forobearance, freely counsel with each other and unite the strength of all par ties upon one man. There is no doubt but that the Black Republican party of tho North obtains courago and strength from tho distract ed State of tho South, , and all parties now, without stopping to determine who in tho^a«f has done most icrony, should strivo to see who nt the present and for the future, can do tho most good for our common section. Deal, genuine, old fashioned patriotism,ia now needed and un- loss thoro is a greater exhibition of it than we havo seen fpr a few years past wo awful ly fear for tho falo of our glorious Re public. If tho political parties of Georgia can not now unito before tho election for tho purpose of defeating Lincoln, is it likely that they would act harmonious ly after tho oloction oven if Lincoln should bo successful? petitions were fully declared following passage, which wo quote from that letter, ouglit to satisfy everybody, except those who nro determined be forehand not to be satisfied with any th ing. “My opinion was, that whether th- petitioners had right on their side or not sound policy dictated tho reception and reference of their petitions. I ho- liovo that any unusual course in regard to them, would givo undue importance to tlio movement of tho abolitionists, furnish new ground for agitation, and rather increnso tho existing excitement than allay it. In my onimon, a report from a committee at each session—tem perate, yet firm and unqualified in its conclusions—would lmvo been well cal culated to correct false impressions at the North: to dispel prejudice, and prevent that ferment and angry feeling at tlio South which, at that stage of tho quostion, was calculated to do mischief. Whether right or wrong, and jvithout, pretending to censure those frioUds who ditlerod with me, I litivo uniformly hold these opinions; yet I will add that few gentlemen in the South would be wore prenared for prompt and decisive measures of resistance and protection, should the rights and interests of’ the South connected with this sub ject ever be invaded through Congress or oth- , than myscO’.
